d ay 1 Our flight arrives in Dublin Airport at approximately 8:40 a.m. As a group, we will meet our guide and driver in the airport and then transfer to Coach Park, a five-minute walk from the Arrivals Hall. We then will set off to the seaside town of Howth, a picturesque fishing village in North Dublin and a short transfer from the airport. We will have a group breakfast in Howth, followed by some free time for people to stretch their legs and appreciate the beauty of the village. Refreshed and revived, we will board the coach and head off on a panoramic city tour of Dublin. Highlights will include the Phoenix Park, Dublin Castle and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, to name a few. At approximately 2 p.m., we will check into our city center hotel, where the group will be based for the next two nights. The guide will keep in touch with the hotel throughout the morning to see when rooms are ready. Following check-in, everyone will have a couple hours of free time before heading off for a light tour and evening welcome dinner. Our first stop on the tour will be EPIC Ireland, Dublin’s newest visitor attraction, where we will enjoy a guided tour of the collection, which tells the story of Irish emigration around the world. The visit will conclude with a cocktail and canape. Next, we head to the famous Brazen Head pub, where we will enjoy a welcome dinner and be regaled with stories, Irish music and ballads. After a fun evening, we return to the hotel for an early night. Your hotel for the two nights in Dublin will be Brooks Hotel, located in the heart of the city. 3
d ay 2 This morning we head to Wicklow, the Garden of Ireland, for a half-day tour including a visit to Powerscourt Gardens/or Glendalough monastic settlement. We then return to Dublin with some free time for lunch. The group will meet in the afternoon for a special visit to the National Gallery of Ireland with the curator of Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum at Quinnipiac University, Niamh O’Sullivan. After the tour, we cross the road and enter Trinity College Dublin for a private tour of the famous Book of Kells and Old Library. This tour will take place when the library is closed to the public, so it is a very special privilege to get access after hours. The evening is yours to enjoy however you like. We will provide guests with information about local restaurants, theaters and music venues. d ay 3 This morning, after a hearty breakfast, we leave Dublin and head toward West Cork. We will make a couple of stops en route to ensure the group gets to see much of what Ireland has to offer. The first stop will be in New Ross at the Dunbrody Famine Ship, which transported thousands of Irish to America between 1845–51 during the Great Famine. We will continue along the Southeast Coast, the Copper Coast to Midleton, where we will have lunch and visit the Jameson Midleton Distillery, where the famous whiskey has been distilled for over 200 years. After lunch we will head to Cork for a short panoramic city tour and comfort stop before heading to the wonderful area of West Cork. For the next two nights, the group will be based in the charming Celtic Ross Hotel in the quaint town of Rosscarbery. The evening is free to enjoy however you like. 4
d ay 4 This morning we depart for the beautiful Beara Peninsula to explore some of the untouched scenery this region has to offer. The peninsula was named after a Spanish princess and is home to the highest waterfall in Ireland and the UK. This is the warmest part of Ireland, and is full of history over the centuries. After an action-packed day, the group will make a final stop at The Ewe Experience, Ireland’s only interactive sculpture garden in a spectacular waterfall oasis. Later in the afternoon, we will visit Skibbereen and see the traveling exhibition, “Coming Home: Art and the Great Hunger,” in the new Uillinn Arts Centre, followed by a historic walking tour of the town. We will then have a cheese and wine reception in the Arts Centre before heading back to Rosscarbery. In the evening, the group will enjoy a five-course West Cork tasting menu. This evening will start with a local food and beer tasting before sitting down to enjoy the fruits of the region. Either this evening or on the previous night, the hotel will also arrange for a group of amazing local musicians to sing and dance for them. The locals describe them as “four talented young lads, who always blow the roof off the place such is the enthusiasm the guests have for them.” One of them is an All-Ireland dancing champion! d ay 5 Today we leave Cork for the Kingdom, County Kerry. Heading north on the Wild Atlantic, our first stop will be Muckross House, Farm and Gardens in the National Park in Killarney. We will spend a couple hours absorbing the natural beauty of the park but also seeing what rural Ireland was like in bygone times, how people lived off the land, and what their home life was like. Live, informed actors make this visit especially reminiscent and enjoyable. From here we will travel into Killarney, where the group will stay for the next two nights. Our lodging will be the Malton Hotel, centrally located hotel in the heart of Killarney. It will be re-branded next year to the Great Southern, its original name. 5
d ay 6 Today, we will enjoy a full-day tour around Slea Head and the Dingle peninsula with its hugely historic beehive huts dating from the 8th century, ancient monuments and important churches such as Gallarus Oratory. You are free to enjoy dinner in one of the many excellent pubs serving food or a fine dining experience. d ay 7 This is our last full day in Ireland and we head straight for the Cliffs of Moher and a tour of the Burren with its rugged limestone landscape before a final overnight in Ennis. The group will check into the Inn at Dromoland and refresh before heading off for the Bunratty Medieval Banquet for a farewell dinner. Join the Earl of Thomond in his 15th- century, fully restored castle for a evening of entertainment and fine food. We will spend the night at the Inn at Dromoland. 6
