WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

*HymN Wherever I May Wander #294

call to confessioN (10:15 service only)

prayer of Confession (10:15 service only)
God of Creation, we confess that we fret and worry about little things that we will soon for-
get, but still, they consume our thoughts. We confess that we are disappointed when things
do not go our way, unable to see that a better opportunity may come before us at another
time. We become stuck and dejected, angry and hurt, when we are passed over for a promo-
tion or recognition, when others do not observe the hard work we believe we have done. For-
give us, O God, for holding on to hurt feelings at times instead of participating in the greater
work at hand. Grant us the wisdom to discern when injustice occurs, or when it is simply a
mistake or different point of view, and help us instead to pause, reflect, and seek your guid-
ance, through the wisdom of those we trust. For it is for your wisdom we pray. Amen.

Assurance of forgiveness (10:15 service only)
God has searched us, knows us, and discerns our thoughts from far away. There is no place we
can go, nowhere we can hide, where God is not with us.
God forgives us, and we are made in the image of God.
Go and share the good news: no matter what the world has said to you, you are God’s beloved
child, very much needed in this world. Amen.
*GLORIA PATRI (10:15 service only)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
  world without end. Amen, Amen.

*Passing of the Peace

Scripture
In the beginning was the Word,
And the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
  		               1 Corinthians 10:6-13 (p997)
For the Word of God in scripture, for the Word of God among us,
for the Word of God within us,
 	Thanks be to God!

*affirmation of faith
We believe in God, infinite in wisdom, power and love, whose mercy is over all his works,
and whose will is ever directed to the good for all humanity and creation.
We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of God’s unfailing grace,
the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death and into life
  abundant.
We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, that prods us towards the
way of Christ, and grants us strength and help in time of need.
We believe that our faith, shared and nurtured in the community of the church, should
manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of Jesus, to the end that the
kingdom of God may come upon the earth.
  Amen.
prayers of the people & the lord’s prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day
 our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is
the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*Prayer of Dedication
Let us remember those seeds of love, hope, grace, and peace which we carry in our hearts
and souls, as well as our wallets and purses, so that in remembering, we would offer them
to our God for use in the work of reconciliation and hope. Bless now these gifts and our
lives as we use them in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Welcome Stasia Fine!
We’re so excited to welcome the Reverend Stasia Fine to the First Presbyterian staff. Sta-
sia will be serving as our part time Director of Discipleship and Engagement. In that
position, Stasia will be working to create opportunities for people of all ages to engage
with, live out, and grow in faith. She most recently served as interim pastor at Urbana
Christian Church and here in town at New Disciples in Cedar Rapids. Stasia begins on
Monday, so make sure to take time to introduce yourself.
Glory to God
The middle hymn for today comes from the latest Presbyterian hymnal, Glory to God.
While that hymnal includes many of the hymns that are in our current blue hymnal,
there are additions from other older Presbyterian hymnals, some other denomination-
al classics, and music from around the world. We’ll be featuring some of those pieces
throughout our summer months as we worship by singing “a new song to the Lord.”

Save the Date: Vacation Bible School
July 19-22nd
God’s creation is a gift we all share, and across the church, the call to care for God’s cre-
ation has been growing. Caring for it- together- is both a good work and collective act of
faith. Jesus’ Parable of the Sower will be the scriptural theme for this year’s Vacation Bi-
ble School, as we talk about how God sows seeds of love in our hearts and we are called
to sow seeds of love in our world, even as we tend to others and our earth with care
and compassion. Save the date for for this fun in-person outdoor gathering in Greene
Square. July 19-22nd in the evenings from 5:30-7:30.
