Session Two Week 2 Review - September 28 A Study of The Gospel of John Small Group Questions Guidelines for Leaders: • More questions have been provided than time will allow. Feel free to pick and choose questions based on your group and conversation flow. Every lady does not need to answer every single question. (We HIGHLY encourage you to review these questions before study on Tuesday nights, so you are familiar enough with the question to guide conversation.) End every week with the “Multiply Question” - always leave time for this question that drives to action! • Don’t fear the “pause.” Sometimes it takes a moment of silence before someone will speak up. Just smile! • See “Ladies Small Group Guidelines 2021” for additional instructions. • Always close your group with the “Closing Announcements” before dismissal.
Week One Review September 21 TABLE LEADER INFORMATION: • Please take attendance on the roster at your table. • Suggested daily study for the week: Read the book of John and pages 10-33 in our book. • Invite any woman who memorized John 1:1 (pg. 31) to share it with the table. (Please keep track of those who memorized the verse and notate it on your roster for the drawing for the prize!) • Memory Verse - John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” • Guide discussion through the following questions OPENING NIGHT - GET TO KNOW YOU QUESTION: • Have each lady share her name, a fun fact about herself or why she decided to join the ladies’ study. (We encourage you to set a 1-minute timer on your phone for each lady so everyone gets a turn and we stay on time!) • If any lady was at Ladies Night and is willing, ask them to share what they are believing Jesus for in this season! (What they wrote on their response cards at the end of service.) REFLECTION QUESTIONS: 1. What is something new you learned about Jesus that stood out to you from this week’s study? 2. In Day 1 we read, “for every problem that we face, the book of John points us to one answer, and His name is Jesus.” What problem in life do you most need Jesus’ help with right now? 3. Day 2 and 3 have many references to Jesus being the light of the world. The light guides and directs, reveals, and shows the path. As Christians we should also be the light to model and share him. How do you practically, in little and big ways, act as light in your world to share Jesus? 4. The opposite of light is dark…sometimes our world feels very dark, and we can be tempted to forget that God is still in control and still working, even when we can’t see it. In John 16:33 Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” How do you encourage yourself when you get overwhelmed by the darkness? 5. In Day 4 Jesus is described as full of grace and truth. What does this teach you about how we should respond to others in grace and truth? How is this sometimes difficult for you? 6. In Day 4 we read that in Him (Jesus) we experience “grace upon grace.” How have you come to know and experience God’s grace in your life? In which situations has his grace been fully on display? 7. On Day 5 in John 1:19-34 we read about Jesus as the Lamb of God. What did it mean in your life when you learned that Jesus, as the sacrificial Lamb of God, paid the ultimate penalty for your sins? Would anyone like to share their testimony? “COME AND SEE” | SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS 2

Week Session Two Review Two Week 2 Review September - September 28 28 TABLE LEADER INFORMATION: • Please take attendance on the roster at your table. • Suggested daily study for the week: pg. 34-57 in our book. Optional: quote memory verse found on page 55. • Invite any woman who memorized John 1:2-3 (pg. 55) to share it with the table. (Please keep track of those who memorized the verse and notate it on your roster for the drawing for the prize!) • Memory Verse - John 1:2-3, “He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.” • Guide discussion through the following questions REFLECTION QUESTIONS: 1. Day 1 lists all the names or titles for Jesus. Which name/title means the most to you and why? (Titles/names: the Word, Creator, the Life, the Light, the Lamb of God, Rabbi (teacher), Son of God, King of Israel, Son of Man, the Ladder.) 2. In Day 1 we see Jesus ask the disciples what they were seeking. What would your answer be? What do you need from Jesus? 3. In Day 1 we see that the disciple’s natural response when meeting Jesus was to tell others about him. Is that your natural response? How can you grow in sharing him? Who is one person you could share Jesus with this week? 4. In Day 2 we see Mary went to Jesus with her concern. Where do you go with worries, anxieties, situations, and concerns? Is your first thought to go to Jesus? How can you change if needed? 5. In Day 2 we also see that Jesus’ transforming power is with us today. Its working in ways we can’t see or fully understand. Where do you need Jesus transforming power in your life right now? 6. In Day 3 we see Jesus cleanse the temple and we learn a powerful lesson about the kind of worship he is seeking. They had made the place of worship a place of consumerism and made it about themselves. Worship was about what was comfortable and easy instead of being about true worship of a holy God. In what ways are you tempted to worship with the same mindset? What are some ways you can prepare your heart to worship him appropriately? How can you focus on God himself instead of what you can get from him? 7. In Day 4 we learn a powerful lesson of God’s love for us told to Nicodemus by Jesus. We see that God sent him not to condemn us (we were already condemned!) but to save the world. This passage reminds us of the gift and glory of our salvation! Would anyone like to share a short testimony of your salvation story. How has God lavished his love on you? 8. In Day 5 we learn from John the Baptist that “He must increase, and I must decrease.” What are some practical ways that HE must increase in your life, and you must decrease some of your own tendencies, desires, and motives? “COME AND SEE” | SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS 4
9. In Day 5 we learn that human nature seeks its own glory, but the purpose of Christians should be to point to Jesus. What are some practical ways you can point people to Jesus? MULTIPLY QUESTIONS: 1. What did you learn from your study that you will share with someone? OR…Who came to your mind as you studied this week? (Someone you want to share with or help in their walk with Jesus.) REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK: (Share with your group.) • Our gift to you today: We have provided a small heart for each lady to take home to remind her that Jesus wants her heart! • Connect via Social: Join the “Journey Ladies Facebook Group” or follow “Journey. Ladies” on Instagram to stay up to date with latest info and announcements. https://www.facebook.com/groups/jciladies • Homework Reminder: Begin DAY 1 of WEEK 3 homework Wednesday. Week Three Review October 5 TABLE LEADER INFORMATION: • Please take attendance on the roster at your table. • Suggested daily study for the week: pg. 58-83 in our book. Optional: quote memory verse found on page 81. • Invite any woman who memorized John 1:4-5 (pg. 81) to share it with the table. (Please keep track of those who memorized the verse and notate it on your roster for the drawing for the prize!) • Memory Verse - John 1:4-5, “In him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.” • Guide discussion through the following questions (Please note: Today everyone will take some time to write their testimony on the cards provided. Be sure to leave enough time for this exercise!) REFLECTION QUESTIONS: 1. In Day 1 we see that only Jesus truly satisfies the cravings of our soul. What can you tend to look for to satisfy your thirst other than Jesus? What does your life reveal (by what you spend your time, efforts, money and energies on) you believe will give you satisfaction? 2. In Day 1 and 2 we see that Jesus is the answer to our sin, shame, and brokenness. We see through the Samaritan woman that Jesus knew her story and loved her anyway. Our stories of spiritual transformation have power to proclaim the goodness of God and draw others to God. Write your spiritual story on provided sheet. Would anyone be willing to share theirs? Who can you share your story/testimony with this week? 3. In Day 3 we see that faith is not something that happens only at conversion, but true faith will encompass every moment of the Christian life. Where is God currently stretching your faith? Where is your faith having to choose to trust him even when you don’t understand? 4. In Day 4 we learn that following Jesus has a cost. (For disciples it was their reputation, comfort and lives.) What has it cost you to follow Jesus? How has it been worth it? 5. In Day 5 we see that we often try to make Jesus what we want him to be instead of conforming ourselves to who he is. What ways do you do this in your life? 6. In Day 5 we also see that the religious leaders sought the praise of man instead of God. They were distracted by the praise of men. How can you sometimes be distracted by the crowd and approval of others? MULTIPLY QUESTIONS: 1. What did you learn from your study that you will share with someone? OR…Who came to your mind as you studied this week? (Someone you want to share with or help in their walk with Jesus.) REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK: (Share with your group.) • Spiritual Next Steps: Discuss baptism at your table and encourage any ladies who have not yet been baptized to fill out the provided card. “COME AND SEE” | SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS 6

Week Four Review October 12 TABLE LEADER INFORMATION: • Please take attendance on the roster at your table. • Suggested daily study for the week: pg. 84-107 in our book. Optional: quote memory verse found on page 105. • Invite any woman who memorized John 1:6-7 (pg. 105) to share it with the table. (Please keep track of those who memorized the verse and notate it on your roster for the drawing for the prize!) • Memory Verse - John 1:6-7, “There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.” • Today we will celebrate the Festival of Booths/Shelters together outside! See Vanessa / Danielle for more instructions. • Guide discussion through the following questions REFLECTION QUESTIONS: 1. In Day 1 through the feeding of the 5,000 we see that Jesus is a great provider. Little placed in the hands of Jesus turns into much. There is no situation too difficult for him to overcome. In the past, what area of your life have you had to trust God and have you seen his provision? How has that shaped your faith & built your trust? 2. In Day 1 we also see Jesus walk on water during a storm. He had power over the situation that felt so uncertain to the disciples. He meets us in our doubt and comforts us and reminds us of who he is. Is there any doubt you are carrying right now that you need Jesus to show up in and work a miracle? 3. In Day 2 we learn the difference between physical provision that is temporary vs. eternal provision through the illustrations of manna and Jesus as the Bread of life. In what ways are you sometimes tempted to seek physical provision (momentary) instead of eternal provision? 4. In Day 3 we learn there are costs and blessings in following Jesus as a disciple. What have been some of the costs of following Jesus? What have been some of the blessings? 5. In Day 4 we learn about God’s sovereignty and timing. If we are waiting, if we are suffering, he can use all of that in his plan. We look to Jesus and trust God is using every season to make us more like him. What does this passage teach you about God’s timing and plan? How have you seen God’s timing and plan at work in your own life? 6. In Day 5 we see Jesus again offer himself as living water that satisfies our souls and it’s completely free! He’s the gift and the giver. How specifically has Jesus satisfied your soul? MULTIPLY QUESTIONS: 1. What did you learn from your study that you will share with someone? OR…Who came to your mind as you studied this week? (Someone you want to share with or help in their walk with Jesus.) “COME AND SEE” | SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS 8

Week Five Review October 19 TABLE LEADER INFORMATION: • Please take attendance on the roster at your table. • Suggested daily study for the week: pg. 108-131 in our book. Optional: quote memory verse found on page 129. • Invite any woman who memorized John 1:8-9 (pg. 129) to share it with the table. (Please keep track of those who memorized the verse and notate it on your roster for the drawing for the prize!) • Memory Verse - John 1:6-7, “There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.” • Guide discussion through the following questions REFLECTION QUESTIONS: 1. In Day 1 we see the story of the woman caught in adultery and the forgiveness and mercy Jesus offers her. We also read Romans 8:1. How does this verse along with this story help you understand there to be no condemnation for God’s people? What should your response be to his boundless mercy in your own life? 2. In Day 2 we see that many of Jesus’ claims angered people enough to want him dead and yet they couldn’t hurt him because his “hour hadn’t come.” What does this teach you about God’s sovereignty in your own life? How does this cause you think differently? 3. In Day 3 we see a challenge to abide in his Word which means to dwell, remain, hold fast. We see that we know truth through his Word and we are challenged to run to His Word because that is where true freedom is found. How do you draw life from God’s Word? What are your practices that help you dig into God’s Word & get something from it? 4. Following up on God’s Word, share one of your favorite verses of scripture and how it has brought you life? 5. In Day 4 we learn Jesus was maligned and hated and as followers of Jesus we will be hated by the world too. Have you felt that persecution in your own life? How do you encourage yourself? 6. In Day 4 we see that all of the Bible points to Jesus from the Old Testament to the New. Why is it important for us to understand this? 7. In Day 5 we learn a little bit about suffering. What did this passage teach you about suffering and how can you see it apply to your own life? 8. In Day 5 we also see the great joy of those who move from spiritual blindness to SIGHT! When we experience salvation ourselves it should move us to PRAY for those still in darkness? Who is someone in your life who doesn’t know Christ that we can pray for? MULTIPLY QUESTIONS: 1. What did you learn from your study that you will share with someone? OR…Who came to your mind as you studied this week? (Someone you want to share with or help in their walk with Jesus.) “COME AND SEE” | SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS 10
