THE GATHERING

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen

The Lord be with you
All: and also with you.

We Say Together:

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known,
and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of
our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may
perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ to
save us from our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring
us to eternal life.

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to
keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with all.

All: Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we
confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We
have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved
our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we
have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we
shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly
with you, our God. Amen.

Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon
you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and
strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in life eternal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

                                                                     2
THE COLLECT
God of compassion, whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary,
shared the life of a home in Nazareth, and on the cross drew the
whole human family to himself: strengthen us in our daily living
that in joy and in sorrow we may know the power of your presence
to bind together and to heal; through Jesus Christ your Son our
Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

                   THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

READINGS

Exodus 2. 1-10
Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a Levite
woman. The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw
that he was a fine baby, she hid him for three months. When she
could hide him no longer she got a papyrus basket for him, and
plastered it with bitumen and pitch; she put the child in it and
placed it among the reeds on the bank of the river. His sister stood
at a distance, to see what would happen to him.

The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her
attendants walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the
reeds and sent her maid to bring it. When she opened it, she saw
the child. He was crying, and she took pity on him. ‘This must be
one of the Hebrews’ children,’ she said. Then his sister said to
Pharaoh’s daughter, ‘Shall I go and get you a nurse from the
Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?’ Pharaoh’s daughter said
to her, ‘Yes.’ So the girl went and called the child’s mother.
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, ‘Take this child and nurse it for me,
and I will give you your wages.’ So the woman took the child and
nursed it. When the child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh’s
daughter, and she took him as her son. She named him
Moses, ‘because’, she said, ‘I drew him out of the water.’

At the end the reader says
This is the word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

                                                                       3
HYMN: Our Father God In Heaven

Our Father God in heaven
on whom our world depends,
to you let praise be given
for families and friends;
for parents, sisters, brothers,
a home where love belongs,
but on this day for mothers
we bring our thankful songs.

What wealth of God's bestowing
for all the world to share!
what strength of heart outgoing
to children everywhere!
Our deepest joys and sorrows
a mother's path must trace,
and earth's unknown tomorrows
are held in her embrace.

How well we know the story
that tells of Jesus' birth,
the Lord of heaven's glory
become a child of earth;
a helpless infant sleeping,
yet King of realms above,
to find in Mary's keeping
the warmth of human love.

Our Father God in heaven,
to you we lift our prayer,
that every child be given
such tenderness and care,
where life is all for others,
where love your love displays:
for God's good gift of mothers
let earth unite in praise!

                                  4
GOSPEL READING

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.

John 19. 25b - 27
Standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s
sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus
saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside
her, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son.’ Then he said
to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ And from that hour the
disciple took her into his own home.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you, O Christ

ADDRESS

THE CREED

I believe and trust in God the Father,
Who created all that is.

I believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ,
Who redeemed humankind.
I believe and trust in his Holy Spirit
Who gives life to the people of God.

I believe and trust in one God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

God provides comfort in all our troubles and sufferings.

As we gather together in the presence of our parent God, let us
pray.

                                                                  5
Loving Father, we pray for all who are persecuted for their faith,
and for whom following you brings danger. We pray for those who
are new to faith and those who no longer walk with you. We thank
you for the example of those whose faith shines out in their lives.

Silence

We are all your children:
Help us grow in love.

Loving Father, we pray for those who are forced to leave their
homes, their families or their countries. We pray for those who,
through war and famine, must watch their children die. We pray
for your peace and comfort.

Silence

We are all your children:
Help us grow in love.

Loving Father, we pray for all the mothering that goes on in this
community and for those who crave tenderness and are weary of
the struggle to be strong.

Silence

We are all your children:
Help us grow in love.

Loving Father, we pray for all new parents and their babies, and all
giving birth today. We pray for all who are vulnerable, that they
may be protected from harm.

Silence

We are all your children:
Help us grow in love.

Loving Father, there are those here whose mothers have died, and
are still remembered with great affection. We pray for those
mothers and grandmothers now, rejoicing in all they gave, and
commending them to your protection for ever.

                                                                       6
Silence

We are all your children:
Help us grow in love.

Loving Father, we give you thanks for the comfort you provide in all
our troubles, and for the richness of all our relationships.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

               THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT

THE PEACE
The peace of the Lord be always with you
All: and also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

PREPARATION OF THE TABLE TAKING OF THE BREAD AND
WINE

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
The Lord is here.
All: His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation; in your love you
made us for yourself.

                                                                        7
When we turned away you did not reject us, but came to meet us in
your Son.
All: You embraced us as your children and welcomed us to sit
and eat with you.

In Christ you shared our life that we might live in him and he in
us.
All: He opened his arms of love upon the cross and made for all
the perfect sacrifice for sin.

On the night he was betrayed, at supper with his friends he took
bread, and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to them,
saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in
remembrance of me.
All: Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his body is the
bread of life.

At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks,
and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new
covenant, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins; do this
in remembrance of me.
All: Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his blood is
shed for all.

As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory, send
your Holy Spirit that this bread and this wine may be to us the
body and blood of your dear Son.

All: As we eat and drink these holy gifts make us one in
Christ, our risen Lord.

With your whole Church throughout the world we offer you this
sacrifice of praise and lift our voice to join the eternal song of
heaven:

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and
earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

                                                                        8
THE LORD’S PRAYER

As Our Saviour Taught Us, so we pray

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
Now and for ever. Amen.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
All: Though we are many, we are one body, because we all
share in one bread.

ALL: Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us.
Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us.
Jesus, redeemer of the world, grant us peace.

GIVING OF COMMUNION

Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ
which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat
and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in
your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.

                                                                    9
We welcome anyone who is a communicating member of the
Christian church to receive communion. We also welcome those who
do not wish to receive communion, but would like to receive a special
blessing. To indicate this, please bring this order of service with you.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Loving God, as a mother feeds her children at the breast you
feed us in this sacrament with the food and drink of eternal
life: help us who have tasted your goodness to grow in grace
within the household of faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

HYMN: Fathers & Mothers

Fathers and mothers,
sisters and brothers,
all those who love us,
for whom we care:
help and befriend them,
keep and defend them,
Jesus our Saviour,
this is our prayer.

And for those others,
fathers and mothers,
children who hunger,
they must be fed:
we would be caring,
readily sharing,
one with another
our daily bread.

Sisters and brothers,
fathers and mothers,
we who together
offer our praise:
hear our thanksgiving,
God ever living,
may we walk with you
all of our days.

                                                                      10
BLESSING

Praise God who loves us.
ALL: Praise God who cares.

May God, who gave birth to all creation, bless you:
may God, who became incarnate by an earthly mother, bless you:
may God, who broods as a mother over her children, bless you.
And may almighty God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, bless,
preserve and keep you and those you love this day and always.
Amen.
