LEARN ABOUT OUR LEARNING LABS THAT
PUT STUDENTS IN THE DRIVER SEAT
Because we know how instrumental peer-led learning is to driving interest in exploring
an experience, our Storytime-N-Pop Just Say YES to Reading learning labs are kid-
focused, kid-friendly, and led by kid authors to drive literacy rates for K-5th grade.
Storytime-N-Pop with Kid
Authors
Our PopUp Storytime sessions featuring kid authors helps inspire students to read
and write their own stories.
Each session transports students into readers through a peer-led storytime , book
signing and reading comprehension game. Students play a sight word & vocabulary
challenge game with their parents, and receive badges as they increase their
language nutrition level. Each Learning Lab introduces students by grade level to
100 new sight words. Thanks to a partnership with local libraries, Amazon Smile ,
Barnes & Noble Booksellers, and the generous donations from our supporters, each
child receives an autographed copy of the kid authors' featured book from the
session and1 book from our library to take home and read as we help families build
a home library of 500 books. Participants earn emPowerment Bucks they can
redeem at our event concession stands and company shop online.

WHY READING MATTERS BY THE 3RD GRADE
Because we know how important it is for students to read on grade-level, our
Just Say YES to Reading academic literacy program is intentional on closing gaps
Grade-Level Reading Initiative
Third grade has been identified as important to reading literacy because it is the final
year children are learning to read, after which students are “reading to learn.” If they are
not proficient readers when they begin fourth grade, as much as half of the curriculum
they will be taught will be incomprehensible.
Working with public schools and homeschool groups, our Just Say YES to Reading
program supports families with additional seat time and tutoring before, during and
after school to help close gaps for students needing
additional support. Our program partners students with tutors and reading specialists
from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

READING TO BABIES AND YOUNG TODDLERS
MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Because we know how important it is for students to read on grade-level, our
academic literacy program surrounds the whole child as early as possible.
Little Caterpillars Early Learning
Our Little Caterpillars Initiative is a strategy to increase the number of
households with babies and young toddlers having access to books
brain development and language nutrition support.
Through monthly meetups and activity sessions through our learning
labs portal, parents of babies through young toddlers age 4 are
provided with fun, repeatable activities they can explore to
increase vocabulary, essential core skills to ensure children are ready
to enter kindergarten, and best practices on navigating common early
childhood experiences to increase health and education equity for
historically underserved citizens.
Each participant of our Little Caterpillars Early Learning sessions are
invited to participate in our Passport Adventure Diaper Bag Program.
