Rhodes to the World Study Abroad Information Sessions Rhodes College Study Abroad Fair [ Watch out for an email with further details! ] Virtual Event via HopIn. Link TBC. What is an Affiliated Partner? Since Rhodes does not currently offer any of our own faculty-led semester programs, we send students on semester programs with a number of trusted partners (AIFS, USAC, and all the other acronyms). Our partner programs are either exchange programs or what we call affiliated programs. As long as you go abroad with an affiliated partner, you are still fully considered a Rhodes student while abroad – and any and all of you Rhodes financial aid will go with you. If the program includes tuition, room, and board, you pay Rhodes tuition, room, and board and all your aid applies. If the study abroad program only includes tuition, you pay Rhodes tuition. Our affiliated partners also take students on summer programs either to places where we do not have Maymesters, or if a student wants a longer summer abroad experience. Just know that institutional aid is not portable for summer programs, though some federal and/or state aid may be. Talk this over with the Financial Aid office to see if you are eligible to use any non-institutional aid abroad for the summer. Rhodes to the World Valentine’s Day Around the World Happy Valentine’s Day from the Buckman Center for International Education! Argentina - For a week in July, Argentina celebrates sweetness week where they exchange sweets for kisses. South Korea - On February 14th, women gift the men with candy, flowers, etc. while men gift the women on March 14th for White Day. For those who don’t have anyone to celebrate with, Black Day is on April 14th where the singles eat Jajangmyeon, or black noodles. Wales - Wales does Valentine’s Day a bit different as well. They celebrate Saint Dwynwen, the Welsh saint of lover on January 25th. During this time, it is cus- tomary for the Welsh men to give their women wooden love spoons. South Africa - On February 14th, women wear hearts on their sleeves and pin the names of their love interests on their sleeves. Denmark - On Valentine’s Day, men sometimes send funny poems called gaekkebrev to women. If the woman who received the poem can figure out who sent it by the series of dots left by the sender, the sender will give the receiver an Easter egg later in the year. Rhodes to the World Studying Abroad from a Rhodes Global Diplomat Name: Jacob Moore Class Year: 2021 Major: History Minor: English Studied Abroad in: Ecuador (Maymester 2018) and European Studies (Fall 2019) About his experiences: My study abroad experiences have been highlights from my college experience. Being able to some Spanish immersion in Ecuador during the summer of 2018 and then study abroad again a year later at Oxford University is an opportunity that very few people get. These adventures greatly improved not only my intellectual growth as a student but also broadened my worldview and, as a result, made me a more well-rounded individual on a personal level. If you have the chance to study abroad ANYWHERE, do it.
