The Fostering Dignity & Respect for All Life Through God’s Love... March 2022 NEWS Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, Office of Family/Respect Life Ministry 240 E. Onondaga St., Syracuse, NY 13202 • Lisa Hall, Director • (315) 472-6754 Ext. 1 • e-mail: lhall@syrdio.org JANUARY Pro-Life Events in Syracuse Bishop Douglas J. Lucia presided at a Mass for Life and Holy Hour on January 22nd at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to pray for the legal protection of unborn children. Afterward, hundreds of people joined the “Syracuse March for Life”, sponsored by the Syracuse Right to Life Association. Marchers walked peacefully from the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) to the steps of the Onondaga County Courthouse. James Salamy, J.C.L., Coordinator of Public Policy for the Diocese of Syracuse explained the importance of the current Supreme Court case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. This case could potentially overturn Roe v. Wade which would allow each state to determine whether to limit or prohibit abortion in their state. The Supreme Court’s decision is expected in June 2022. Following the event, marchers enjoyed Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, cookies and bottled water provided by the Syracuse Diocese Offices of Family/Respect Life and Youth and Young Adult Ministries. Join the Pray for Dobbs movement! More information on page 2. PEOPLE OF LIFE James Salamy, J.C.L., Coordinator of Public Policy, Diocese of Syracuse As Catholics, there are several ways that we can advocate for life. First, we can pray and fast for a greater respect for all human life. In the Syracuse Diocese, we have launched the On Our Knees Campaign, united in prayer and fasting, especially on the 22nd of each month through June. See prayfordobbs.com for further information. Second, we can support women who are pregnant. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has an initiative called “Walking with Moms in Need” where parishes help support pregnant and parenting women. In our diocese, there are places like Joseph’s House, Evelyn’s House, Mom’s House and many others to support pregnant and parenting women in need. Third, we can pray for and support women who are seeking forgiveness, healing, and hope after an abortion through Project Rachel Ministry. Calls or emails can confidentially be placed to Project Rachel at 855-364-0076 or hopeandhealing@syrdio.org. Fourth, we can advocate with the federal and state governments, especially through action alerts from the USCCB, humanlifeaction.org and the New York State Catholic Conference, nyscatholic.org.
