                                     We are Called to
Know, Live and Share the Love of Christ

Welcome to Sunday Worship at Saint Michael’s
We’re glad you’re here. Wherever you are in your spiritual journey, you are invited to
participate during worship as much as you are comfortable. We hope this bulletin will help.

Books for Worship
Today’s service begins on page 355 of the Book of Common Prayer also referred to as the
BCP. This is our primary book for worship in the Episcopal Church. In this bulletin you will
see page numbers that reference where to find things in the BCP that the priest is saying and
also the responses from the congregation. Many responses are short enough that after a few
weeks of worshipping in an Episcopal Church they become second nature. In your pew is a
Bible. It contains the scripture readings that form the first half of our service. There’s also a
Hymnal in your pew. The Hymnal is called The Hymnal 1982

Music in Worship
Episcopalians like to sing and that’s very true here at Saint Michael’s. Much of our music is in
the pew Hymnal; However, supplementary music will be found here in this bulletin. Please
refer to the page numbers of the bulletin for those supplemental hymns.

Receiving Communion
All baptized Christians are welcome to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. It is
customary to receive the Bread in your hands. At this time we are not receiving the blood of
Christ due to Covid. If you do not wish to receive Communion, you are invited to come
forward for a blessing. Should you desire to receive gluten free Host, please indicate this to
the server at the altar rail. To receive the Body of Christ the ushers will direct worshippers
when to come toward.

Live Streaming
To pray at home along with us we have Online Eucharist. In-Person worship is limited to
50% capacity at this time but, so far, no reservations are necessary. Pandemic precautions are
still in place, including the wearing of masks and maintaining distance for in-person
gatherings. Please log in on Facebook, YouTube or our website
SaintMichaelSB.org
Copyright and music licenses: OneLicense.net #A-721494
and CCLI #3215092 for production and live streaming.
The readings for worship may also be found at LectionaryPage.net,

Psalm 29 Afferte Domino
1 Ascribe to the Lord, you gods, *
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his Name; *
worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
  3 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters;
the God of glory thunders; *
the Lord is upon the mighty waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; *
the voice of the Lord is a voice of splendor.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees; *
       the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon;
6 He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, *
and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox.
  7 The voice of the Lord splits the flames of fire;
the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; *
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
8 The voice of the Lord makes the oak trees writhe *
       and strips the forests bare.
9 And in the temple of the Lord *
       all are crying, "Glory!"
                                                     3
10 The Lord sits enthroned above the flood; *
the Lord sits enthroned as King for evermore.
11 The Lord shall give strength to his people; *
the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace.

Prayers of the People for First Sunday After Epiphany Sandy Stackhouse
Reader: Let us pray for the Church and for the World

Reader: Shine in your church, O God; embolden us, in a dark world, to speak truth-
fully and to act with the courage of love. This day and always,
People: Christ, be our Light.

Reader: Shine on your world, O God; heal the warring of nations and the wounding
of the earth to give us peace at last. This day and always,
People: Christ, be our Light.

Reader: Shine for your people, O God; make us one human family who clothe each
other with mercy and feed each other with justice. This day and always,
People: Christ, be our Light.

                                             4
Reader: Shine in our hearts, O God; help us to reach to the heavens and deep in our
souls to seek you, to find you, and to know you. This day and always,
People: Christ, be our Light.

Reader: Shine in the saints and departed, O God; teach us to follow their lead to
outrageous faith and eternal love. This day and always,
People: Christ, be our Light.

Reader: Shine for the afflicted, O God; remind them of your deep compassion and
how you tenderly bear all our sorrows. This day and always,
People: Christ, be our Light.

Let us offer the prayers of the Church.

Celebrant adds a concluding collect.
Shine, O God as the light that creates, the Light that calls, the Light that comes again with
every dawn. Shine as the Light that scatters every shadow, and the Light in which we promise
to walk, with your help. Amen

The Peace BCP 360
A sign of peace is exchanged among the people. This may take a while. We tend to leave our pews and make
warm greetings around the room.

Jordan River, pour out that Spirit on you who have come to the waters of new birth. Amen.
