The Tennis Facility has added another high tech teaching and training tool to our arsenal of convenient amenities. The Playmate iGenie tennis ball machine is the most advanced ball machine on the market. Besides its workhorse reliability, the iGenie adds the benefit of throwing multiple balls of various trajectories to simulate game conditions. You may now hit a baseline rally ball followed by a moon ball then a low approach shot, topspin or underspin passing shots, finishing with a lob. The machine can be set to insert a delay for player recovery from 2 – 10 seconds. You may need a recovery after facing balls from 5 – 90 mph or rest to reprogram a different sequence. The iGenie can be controlled by the standard remote control or by your iphone with a free app. We also have pre-programmed shot sequences on our ipad that you can take to the court and never have to touch a control knob. Push a button on your device to track your workout in time and balls hit. The PickupWall automated ball machine return unit returns balls to the machine for you increasing your time on the machine. The ball machine has been very busy as members recognize the value of this game improvement tool. If the iGenie is booked you can always have the back -up ball machine set up on the adjacent court. Best of all; the ball machine is always free to use for members and guests. 16 the Eagle JANUARY 2020

The most obvious example of MIXED DOUBLES MIXER this is the dink in Pickleball. Advanced Pickleball is played Sunday, January 19 • 8:30 am almost exclusively, after the first two shots, from the no- T volley line (NVL) near the net. Players get to the NVL as quickly as possible and employ short, soft shots designed to TENNIS LECTURE prevent their opponents from creating offense until they can force a high reply and put the ball away. This requires Wednesday, January 22 not only proper technique, but patience, as it is often tempting to take the first ball that isn’t extremely low and try 2:30 pm • Multipurpose Room to blast it for a winner. This strategy rarely works, and usually causes an error. P In order to dink effectively, a player must manage a very soft hold on the paddle, open the paddle face, and PICKLEBALL CHALLENGE CUP sweep through the ball with a slow, fluid motion. It is also best to dink cross-court, or into the longest area of the Sunday, January 26 • 8:30 am no-volley zone available. Dinks do not have to be perfect to be effective, and players must cultivate the patience to stay on the NVL and be prepared to trade dinks with opponents. Most often a team wins these exchanges TP when the other team over-hits and misses, or pops up the ball allowing for an easy put-away. MESSAGE CENTER SECURITY NEWS Bicycle riding is fun, healthy, and a great way to be independent however, it is important to remember that a bicycle is not a toy; it’s a vehicle! Safe Riding Tips • Wear a Properly Fitted Bicycle Helmet • Check Your Equipment. Inflate tires properly and check that your brakes work. TOM WEST • See and Be Seen. Always wear neon, fluorescent, or other bright colors when riding day security director or night. Also wear something that reflects light, such as reflective tape or markings, or flashing lights. 561-921-9999 • Watch for and Avoid Road Hazards. • Avoid Riding at Night. Bicycles in many States are considered vehicles, and cyclists have the same rights and the same responsibilities to follow the rules of the road as motorists. When riding, always go with the traffic flow and ride on the right in the same direction as other vehicles. Obey all traffic signs, signals, and lane markings, and yield to traffic when appropriate. When turning left or right, always look behind you for a break in traffic, then signal before making the turn. Watch for left- or right-turning traffic. The safest place for bicycle riding is on the street, where bicycles are expected to follow the same rules of the road as motorists and ride in the same direction. For anyone riding on a sidewalk, watch for vehicles coming out of or turning into driveways. Stop at corners of sidewalks and streets to look for cars and to make sure the drivers see you before crossing. Enter a street at a corner and not between parked cars. Alert pedestrians that you are near by saying, “Excuse me,” or, “Passing on your left,” or use a bell or horn. In an effort for those who enjoy bicycling and wanting to gain expedited entry through the gates without having to slow down, Security has a high visibility decal for those members.
