From the Chair….. a monthly report from members we have helped we can’t always relay those to everyone. I think it’s times such as the conference and expo last year when ADIs approached me to say “thank you to the team for helping me I’m so grateful for the support through a very stressful time”. At other times we help with simpler issues and liaise with DVSA on your behalf which is usually very successful and stress Happy New Year: Resolutions and Goals: reducing as well as time reducing for yourselves too. This is part of the process to modernise and improve our need to help with your Standards Check services for customers. What’s changing? The biggest change will be to simplify and speed up the way we handle complaints by removing a stage of the process. We currently have a 3-stage process. That means if a customer isn’t happy NEWLY REVISED EDITION with our first response to their complaint, we’ll try a second, and up to a third time to resolve it. Standards From today, we’re moving to a 2-stage process. This will mean we resolve customer complaints faster. It also brings us in line with other government departments. Customers who aren’t happy after stage 2 will still be able to ask one of our independent complaints assessors to look at their complaint. We’ve also updated our complaints procedure on GOV.UK so our customers and people we regulate know where to send their complaints about our services. We’ll continue to train staff to help avoid complaints in the first place – supporting those in public- facing roles to improve the customer service we provide. What happens if we don’t resolve your complaint at the first stage? Check Success! The changes will only apply to complaints we receive on or after 6 January 2020. Latest news from The Honest Truth The Honest Truth making headlines in North Devon Thanks to the North Devon driving scheme teaching the next generation of road users to be safe, The Gazette interviewed North Devon driving instructor Debbie Morphew and her student Alex McNeill. They spoke about the new initiative funded by North Devon and Torridge Community Safety Partnership in conjunction with The Northern Devon Road Safety Forum. Read the article here: https://www.northdevongazette.co.uk/news/north-devon-driving-instructors- team-up-with-the-honest-truth-1-6431917 As an approved driving instructor, you’ll be only too aware that each year over 825,000 people in the UK pass their driving test and join the highest risk road user group – newly qualified young drivers. Although road safety teams within Local Authorities and Fire & Rescue Services are working hard to engage this vulnerable group in effective road safety education, reaching them can be a challenge. Of course, during the course of their lessons, you will doubtlessly provide lots of the practical information and advice that will help them through the driving test and keep them from making many of the skill-based errors that could result in a collision. Yet despite the driving test focusing on skill-based manoeuvres, the vast majority of collisions involving new and young drivers aren’t as a result of poor driving skill. Causation factors are more likely to trace back to poor decision- making ability and understanding of the dangers faced by new drivers, such as distractions, fatigue and inappropriate speed. Did you know you can now sign up to become an Honest Truth Partner ADI online? Starting at just £2 a month, their new and improved package provides you with a road safety plug in that is easy to use and engaging. https://thehonesttruth.co.uk/products/honest-truth-adi-subscription LESS TIME ON ADMIN Remember Annette Lloyd from The Honest Truth will be a guest speaker at our Association Meeting in Walsall on Saturday 29th February.
