Student welfare is our main concern and we choose our families carefully to ensure maximum comfort. In addition, we have a Home Stay Charter in place which clearly sets our standards and our policies concerning all home stays. Activities and Excursions Our Junior Summer Camp offers the ideal balance of study and leisure. Our activity programme includes a wide range of cultural tours and excursions as well as theatre nights, Ceilis (Irish dancing), Discos all held on site at our theatre. We also arrange sporting activities, including; Gaelic football, football (we have our very own 3G pitch on site!), swimming, tennis, pitch and putt, basketball, bowling, cinema and quasar. However, our activities programme is also unique because locally Belfast based artists, musicians, actors, entrepreneurs, craftspeople and youth groups will come into BILA each afternoon to host workshops. At these workshops students will learn about local trades and crafts, like for example, Oak wood carving or Basket weaving, Mural painting or Tin Whistle playing, Cookery or Hairdressing (we have both a kitchen and hairdressing salon on site!). We also organise nature based walks in the nearby Black mountains in conjunction with the Belfast Hills Partnership. These walks are really popular with our students and enable students to learn in a very holistic way, about the wonderful variety of trees, flowers, birds and butterflies amongst other things which live and thrive in the hills which envelope Belfast. Student Care and Welfare At the Belfast International Language Institute our first priority is student safety and well-being. This is demonstrated in our professional approach where students are always put first and our staff are friendly and caring, and are experienced in supervising children. The College directors and all managerial staff live and work in Belfast so we are at hand quickly in any situation. In addition we have an emergency number which all students have access to 24 hours a day, so we are always contactable and available to help. As well as that, a student welfare officer, is always at hand in the institute. Insurance We strongly advise all students to take out medical insurance prior to departure. All students travelling from EU countries should bring a European Health Insurance Card with them. Students are NOT insured by the institute or by the host family against illness, theft or loss of personal effects. The Belfast International Language Academy cannot accept responsibility in the event of any such occurrences. Again, we strongly recommend personal insurance cover.
