Introduction Compact Scheme An agreement with partner schools which offers extra support and benefits to their students should they meet specific criteria Why? Widening participation (WP) remains a high priority for Northumbria University The Compact Scheme will work within these challenging times of rising entry requirements and tuition fees to help students who have the ability to progress to Higher Education but require a little support to achieve their full potential Building on good relationships and working within existing partnerships to help to nurture and retain the North East local talent To act as a tool to further promote engagement with the Northumbria WP and recruitment provision available to schools
Benefits Eligible NU Entry students A University library card, discount vouchers to use in food and retail outlets on campus and discounts on Northumbria Sport Academy activities A personalised web page www.northumbria.ac.uk/nuentry During events such as Open Day, NU Entry Students receive VIP treatment
Benefits Eligible NU Entry students Continual support will be provided by dedicated members of University staff and/or by the NU Entry Advocates (current undergraduate students) Opportunity to earn up to 40 NU Entry points which Northumbria University will accept as the equivalent to 40 UCAS Tariff Points provided that the student achieves a minimum of 260 UCAS Tariff Points from their A levels (or equivalent qualification) and meet all of the requirements set out in their conditional offer Students will gain key transferable skills required to write a good personal statement and be a successful undergraduate student

Eligibility Criteria In order to be eligible for the Northumbria Entry Scheme students must meet all the following criteria: Currently attend one of the identified NU Entry schools Have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English Have potential to achieve or exceed 260 UCAS Tariff points to be eligible for a potential NU Entry offer (confirmed by the teacher signing the application form) Have/or will have participated in two of the NU Entry Scheme components in year 12 Recognised as having ‘home status’, confirmed by the Home Office prior to applying to the NU Entry Scheme*. Meet the English Language requirements to study at the University**
Eligibility Criteria Students must also meet one of the priority criteria: Receipt of free school meals Belong to one of the cohorts listed below: Have experience of living in the care system/looked after by the Local Authority D/deaf or disabled BME Have dependent children Living in a neighbourhood with a low progression rate to Higher Education. Parents without a Higher Education qualification Extenuating circumstances can also be considered on an individual basis if the student has been disadvantaged at key educational times.
Exceptions The following courses* listed in the 2015 prospectus DO NOT accept NU Entry points earned as the equivalent to UCAS points. Mechanical Engineering MEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering MEng Midwifery Studies with a Registered Midwife Qualification (Hons) Early Primary Education BA (Hons) All Extended Degrees * This list may be subject to change
Advocate Programme Based on feedback from schools Up to two advocates per school Up to five sessions in school and potential on campus activity Topics include – finance, student life, personal statements, day in life
KCAP The Key Competencies Assessment Programme ( KCAP) The programme has been designed to give students the opportunity to develop and be assessed in key skills: Communication Personal enterprise Presentation Report writing Research and analysis Team work Opportunity to earn up to 40 NU Entry points which Northumbria University will accept as the equivalent to 40 UCAS Tariff Points provided that the student achieves a minimum of 260 UCAS Tariff Points from their A levels (or equivalent qualification) and meet all of the requirements set out in their conditional offer
Time Line January 2015: Introductory presentations to Year 12 students February 2015: NU Entry Advocate programme commences April 2015: Application deadline Successful NU Entry students are welcomed onto the scheme June 2015: Key Competencies Assessment Programme 40 NU Points awarded September 2015 onwards Students apply to Northumbria University and are supported up to entry

Guaranteed Offer Scheme Students are guaranteed to receive a typical conditional offer for the course(s) they are applying to at Newcastle University if… Predicted UCAS Subject Which Grades Deadlines Requirements courses? Their predicted grades must be within two grades of the typical offer. For example: if the typical offer is AAB and you are predicted to achieve BBB or better you would receive an offer of AAB.

Application Process Students complete UCAS application as normal and include a “P” in the ‘further details’ section for the course(s) at Newcastle University Students complete a PARTNERS Application Form Students hand this form to you, you sign the form and send it off to us with a copy of their UCAS Form
