12 Wednesday, September 16, 2020 showcase Iron County Today It’s just not the same by Mary Anne ANDERSEN Cedar Cit y Arts Council I was hoping for something with an on-and-off button. Teaching at Southern Utah University has been one of the joys of my life here in Cedar City. As each fall semester approached, I was excited to read my new rosters, assemble my syllabi, order my textbook, buy new clothes. Our family of teachers all looked to this time of year with a sense of anticipation matching Christmas; we all had what we call our “back-to-school” dreams. And then things changed, maybe forever. I can teach music and piano skills but mastering the technology to provide the required online communication has proven my downfall, I’m afraid. I went to the required training and didn’t even have the vocabulary to ask questions. During the one-on-one training I arranged for, I mentioned the on-off-button thing and she laughed.
