AY GI B SLSC AN IR MA C H A I R M A N ’ S M E S S AG E Hi team This last ‘off season’ would have to have been one of our most unusual and in turn busiest periods of the year, couple that with this year's AGM, identified constitutional anomalies and requirements as well as the ever changing Covid-19 requirements - I'm very happy to say though we ALL got through it and in turn positive we are all looking forward to Labour Weekend and the official start of the 2020 / 2021 Season. Grace Campbell along with numerous others have once again made sure we are operationally ready for the season and everyone should be aware of your patrol dates and ongoing Lifeguarding requirements and commitments, to which I would like to thank ALL our Lifeguards in advance for your time and professionalism, wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable summer. There are many avenues for our lifeguards to develop so make sure you take every available opportunity and learn from every moment both on and off the beach and don't forget to register your interest here 2 of 17
I BAY SLS ANG C R I C H A I R M A N ’ S M E S S AG E MA CONTINUED… The AGM saw a higher than usual interest in management committee positions to which I would like Thank ALL nominees (elected or not) for taking an interest in the direction of the club and for what you can contribute going forward - you have challenged us all to sit up and take note and to consider change as a positive. I would like to welcome the following new faces on your management committee: Bronwyn Prescott - DoMembership, Marcus Forbes - DoSurf Sports and Peter Storey - DoJunior Surf as well as the re-elected Grace Campbell - DoLifeguarding and Tony Sands - DoFinance. This will be my second term as chairman to which I appreciate the opportunity to represent the club for another year. I would again like to thank Ruth Beamish, Fred Teaukura, Shaun Hayward and the very esteemed Steve Vaughan for their many hours, long days & nights and years of service through the numerous occupied club positions, thankfully, they are not lost to the movement or our club and we wish them all well in the pursuit of time with their whanau, friends and other less stressful activities. 3 of 17

AY GI B SLSC AN IR MA POOL CHAMPS REPORT Like plenty of other sports, Covid-19 did its best to derail our winter pool season. After an impressive start and a huge number of swimmers coming along, the impact of lockdowns and restricted numbers took its toll on our squad’s ability to train. Add in some additional requirements from the Hamilton City Council and it was starting to look like we might pack the swim gear away without any pool competition at all. But Bay of Dreamers are a resilient lot and with a small crew of juniors, seniors and masters, Mairangi Bay finished fourth overall for the 2020 Pool Rescue Nationals. Before we talk about results, a huge thanks has to go to our master coach, Jason. For those who don’t know, Jase is one of the most accomplished coaches in New Zealand - he spends hours of his own time passing on his years of experience and always does it with a smile on his face. 13 of 17
GI BAY SLS NEWSL ETTER J ULY 2 0 1 7 AN POOL CHAMPS REPORT R C I MA continued…. Hamilton definitely posed challenges, but there were loads of impressive performances with multiple national titles won. Highlights of the three days of competition included two of our younger athletes, Michaela Pocock and Jackson Hamilton, swimming up in the open category for relays and walking away with national titles. Zoe Crawford dominated the pool and showed her class swimming up into the under-19 ladies age group and walking away with the super lifesaver title. Sam Mayhew, swimming across the open and masters age groups, took home a number of titles in both. The moment of the weekend for me though, was the look on Bryden Storey’s face after he and Lucas won their heat in the tube rescue. •Junior Results - Full race times •Senior Results - Full race times •Masters Results - Full race times •Senior Points •Masters Points - Masters Trophy •Junior Points •Overall Club Points •Senior & Junior Points - Paul Kent Trophy 14 of 17
AY GI B SLSC AN IR MA POOL CHAMPS REPORT And that’s what this season has all been about, having fun and reaping the rewards from hard work. Behind the scenes loads of work has gone in to make it easy for all of our athletes to turn up, jump in the pool and swim without having too many things to worry about. A huge thank you goes to Leigh Storey and Tony Sands for all the amazing work you do for the team. There are loads of others who have made a huge impact on the team’s success. To the parents who sit for hours on end as timekeepers, we owe you a lot. The same goes to those who sign the swimmers in at each training session and the parents who bring their kids to the pool every Sunday for training. Finally, to all the swimmers who swam through the season, thanks for being a great bunch of people. It hasn’t been easy but when we did get into the pool there was loads of camaraderie, plenty of fun and smiles. Marcus 15 of 17
