Honiley & District Flower, Fruit & Vegetable Autumn Show 2018 SHOW PROGRAMME Staging of exhibits 9-11:30am Judging 12:00pm Show opens 2:30pm Tea & homemade cakes 2:30pm Presentation of prizes to include scarecrow competition 4:00pm End of Show auction (time to grab a bargain!) 4:15pm Printing for the Show kindly donated by Fuelwood (Warwick) Ltd, Forestry & Firewood Machinery Specialists, Claywood, Beausale. 2
Rules 1. All entries are 50p per entry. Junior section is 20p per entry. 2. Prize money only awarded for junior sections 1st prize £1.50, 2nd prize £1.00 and 3rd prize 50p. 3. All floral arrangements not to exceed 45cm. 4. All entry forms must be submitted by Wednesday 5th September. 5. The judges will have the power to withhold prizes when the competition is insufficient or the exhibits are deficient in merit and to award additional prizes at their discretion. The judges’ decisions are final. 6. All exhibits must be exhibitors’ own produce with honey produced by their own bees and eggs laid by their own chickens. This does not apply to the Floral Art. 7. An exhibitor may enter more than one entry per class. 8. Exhibitors may enter all the classes for which they are eligible. Children may enter any classes and their age will be taken into consideration during judging. 9. All exhibits must be staged between 9am and 11.30am and must not be removed before 4.15pm. 10. In the event of two or more exhibitors gaining the highest number of points to win a cup, it will be at the judge’s discretion to select the best exhibitor. 11. Exhibits must not have been entered in any previous Honiley and District Flower, Fruit and Vegetable Shows. 12. Cups and trophies must be returned one month before the following year’s show. 3

Collection of home grown vegetables 3 each of 3 different types, not to exceed 45x60 cm. 2. 5 potatoes, coloured 3. 5 potatoes, white 4. 3 carrots with foliage cut to approx.75mm (3”) 5. 3 beetroot, with foliage 6. 3 onions, dressed 7. 3 onions, as grown 8. 7 shallots – all one size 9. Heaviest marrow 10. 3 tomatoes, beefsteak 11. 5 tomatoes, large 12. 5 tomatoes, small 13. 3 leeks 14. 6 runner beans 15. Longest runner bean 16. 6 beans, dwarf, French, traditional or coloured 17. Comical vegetable 18. Collection of 5 herbs (named) 19. 2 courgettes 20. 2 cucumbers 21. 2 squashes – same variety 22. 3 sweetcorn 23. 3 sweet or chilli peppers 24. Tallest Sunflower, displayed as a photograph with a family member standing next to the sunflower – please state height of the family member and height of sunflower 72. Miniature garden in a seed tray (approx.. 14”x18.5”) Roger Tilley Challenge Cup presented to the exhibitor with the outstanding exhibit 7
HINTS FOR EXHIBITORS. Pick exhibits as close to show day as possible. Avoid splits, pest or disease damage. Samples, evenly sized and clean. Fruit – Leave natural bloom intact, show single variety, and leave some stalk attached. Vegetables – Show single variety, display on plate/dish if you wish. Potatoes – Equally matched specimens, clean and unblemished Onions, dressed - well ripened bulbs, roots trimmed, tops tied with raffia. Onions, as grown – leave roots and tops intact. Carrots – leave tap root intact and trim foliage back to 3” (7cm). Leeks, as grown – leave tops and roots intact. Runner and French beans – slender, straight, no prominent seeds, short stalk attached. Tomatoes – uniform size and colour, leave calyx (stalk) attached Sweetcorn – cylindrical cobs with fresh green husk, intact silks and up to 1” (2.5cm of stalk). Pull down husks and tuck under the cob. Jams, honey, marmalade & chutney – jars, labelled with contents and date, to be filled to the top in plain jars.
