PARKCREST CHILDREN’S CENTRE PRESCHOOL NEWSLETTER Website: www.parkcrestchildcaresociety.ca Email: info@parkcrestchildcaresociety.ca OCTOBER 2021 We have had a busy month getting to know each other and learning the classroom routine. Our classes are now starting to settle and personalities are starting to shine. We have been watching many friendships blossom in such a short time. We have been working on hand washing, sitting at group time and respecting everyone’s space. Our classes are coming along quite well and we are looking forward to some fun October activities such as making apple sauce, exploring pumpkins and fall arts. PICK UP/DROP OFF Just a reminder to share our pick up and drop off procedures with anyone who will be picking up children from the preschool. We would appreciate that parents/guardians/alternate pick-ups line up starting at the top of the stairs and make their way down, then exit using the path past the playground. Thank you! PARKING: A friendly reminder to all our families…Please park your car in the appropriate areas. The staff have noticed some families parking in the “no stopping” zones. This creates a safety issue for the children attending Parkcrest Elementary School and our Preschool families. Be prepared for the weather as check in’s before entry will be ongoing. SNACK To ensure the health and safety of all the children, please take a minute to read all the ingredients on the packaging. Snacks that say, “may contain traces of nuts” or “made in a facility that manufactures nut products” and “nut extracts” do not belong in the nut/tree-nut products safe list for our Centre. Safe snacks have packaging that display the peanut free image. Avoid sending candies, chocolates, and gummies.
PARKCREST CHILDREN’S CENTRE PARENT BOARD Every year we invite all parents to attend our Annual General Meeting and to vote in new members to support Parkcrest Children’s Centre. Without parents, we would not have an amazing Centre for the children in our community. This year our AGM will be held virtually on November 15th at 7pm. We invite all of you to attend. Read below for more information. A signup sheet will be available in November. ILLNESS A reminder to keep your child home when cold or flu symptoms are present. For children, it’s important to think about what is usual or unusual about their specific symptoms. For example, a child may have a low fever, irritability and a runny nose because they are currently teething or a child may have a runny nose due to seasonal allergies. Check with your health care provider, or call 811 to speak with a nurse, if you have concerns. COVID-19 Parkcrest Children’s Centre understands that health related information due to Covid-19 is constantly changing. In accordance with the Public Health Guidelines, we know that schools and childcare centres have an updated symptom list. Please read below for information from BCCDC. http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/about-covid- 19/symptoms The key symptoms to watch for are fever, chills, cough, difficulty breathing*, loss of sense of smell or taste, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. • If the staff or the child’s parent/guardian indicates that the symptoms are consistent with a previously diagnosed health condition and are not unusual for that individual, they may return to daycare. No assessment or note is required from a health care provider. • If children and staff have only one of the key symptoms without fever or difficulty breathing, children and staff can monitor at home for 24
hours. If symptoms improve, they can return to the child care facility without further assessment • If symptoms include fever or difficulty breathing, two or more of the key symptoms, or if after 24 hours, symptoms remain the same or get worse, seek a health assessment. A health assessment can include calling 8-1-1, a primary care provider like a physician or nurse practitioner, or going to a COVID-19 testing centre. *In small children, difficulty breathing can look like breathing fast or working hard to breathe. Remember, if you think your child is ill, please keep them at home. PLAYGROUND USE Finally!! We have a schedule to use the playground during our classes. In consideration with the students attending Parkcrest Elementary, please enjoy the playground after 3pm or on the weekends. ALL ABOUT ME Thank you for bringing in your family picture and helping your child fill out the All About Me information sheet. They will be put into individual class binders where the children can look through the pictures and open conversations with friends. We will also be sharing these during our upcoming group times to learn more about each other. FOOD BANK FOR THANKSGIVING Every October, the children of Parkcrest Preschool learn about the act of giving and thankfulness. Part of this learning experience is participating in a food drive for the GREATER VANCOUVER FOOD BANK. From October 4th-8th, we will be accepting unexpired and nonperishable food items. Please consider sending something with your child to school so we may all be a part of the giving experience. We have so much to be grateful for. Thanksgiving will be celebrated on Monday October 11th. The Centre will be closed.
APPLESAUCE The children will be making applesauce on Thursday October 7th and Friday October 8th. Please send one apple with your child/children on these days. No snack is needed on these days but if you have a picky eater, please send a snack. FIELD TRIP TO LAITY PUMPKIN PATCH: We will be heading to Laity Pumpkin Patch on Monday October25th with the 3 day classes and on Tuesday October 26th with the 2 day classes. Classes will be combined on these day in the morning and there will be no classes in the afternoon. We will be meeting everyone at the pumpkin patch! Please return forms no later than Friday October 15th. Please dress according to weather and remember to bring a reusable bag for your pumpkin. Additional pumpkins are available for purchase when exiting the farm. Field trip form to follow. COSTUME PARTIES Our Costume parties will be celebrated on Thursday, October 28th for the 2 day classes and Friday 29th for the 3 day classes. Children will be “walking the runway” and showing off their costume. We ask that there be no weapons (guns, swords etc.) or costume face masks. Children are welcome to bring treats for their friends. All treats must be prepackaged and nut/tree nut free. Please note that each class has 20 children. We encourage families to only write who the treat if from to make it easier for distributing.
