Welcome to Our Global Campus SPRING Semester 2021 Global Campuses Foundation (GCF), a 501(c)(3), supports adults with differing abilities worldwide in the development of campuses for higher learning. Academics are tailored to an individual’s Northeast Kingdom Human Services, passions, interests and abilities. In Upper Valley Services, Lincoln Street, addition to being a student learner, each Inc., Lamoille County Mental Health participant is given the opportunity to Services, Champlain Community lead classes and teach to their peers. Key Services, Families First, and Washington to our mission is valuing the voice and full County Mental Health Services, as participation of adults with disabilities well as a wide variety of individuals, in the development and operation of organizations and businesses that each Global Campus. GCF partners with support the work of the campuses. Featured GC GRANITE CITY Participant Alan Alan has been coming to GC Granite City since the early days of the campus. He has since become one of our core members who attends each and every week. Alan loves visiting with his friends and sharing his wealth of knowledge about sports, fun facts, and popular culture. In the past he has taught about baseball cards, card collecting, and his life in New York City before moving to Vermont. This semester he will teach about one of his all-time favorite shows, the original Batman television show! Alan loves sharing about his passions and he brings smiles to our faces every week, whether it is with a kind word or with his many funny jokes! 2 | Global Campuses Foundation | Spring 2021 Catalog
Global Campuses Foundation 2020~ 2021 Academic Year Theme OUR NATURAL WORLD Take a journey with us this academic year as we explore our natural world. From the depths of the oceans to highest mountain peaks, we will learn about the world around us, what part humans play and what we can do to preserve our natural resources. Each campus will find unique and creative ways to explore this theme as the year unfolds through science, art, music and literature. Virtual Learning In person classes were suspended last spring due to COVID-19 but our learning continues! The campuses meet weekly and many participants have continued teaching via Zoom. Spring semester begins at the beginning of April and we will continue our learning virtually and follow VT Department of Health guidelines about when we can meet again in person. Please join us this spring for some exciting online classes! How to Participate at a Global Campus AS A STUDENT LEARNER PARTICIPANT you can register for educational offerings and become a learning member of the campus; AS A FACULTY PARTICIPANT you can teach and share about a subject, topic, skill, and/or experience; AS A STAFF PARTICIPANT you can become a staff member of the campus supporting its development and successful operations. AS A COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER: Community volunteers are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways: assisting participants with research and class planning, supporting our faculty participants during their classes, co-teaching classes and helping with community service projects. EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS 1 DEMENTIA FACULTY: Tamara DATE: Monday, April 5 2:30pm - 3:00pm ZOOM: https://zoom.us/j/96388836405 Join Tamara as she discusses a condition that affects millions of people around the world, dementia. In this class, Tamara will talk about the symptoms, the causes, the treatments for dementia, and discuss how this disease affects some people and their loved ones. 2 THREE’S COMPANY FACULTY: Alice DATE: Monday, April 12 2:30pm - 3:00pm ZOOM: https://zoom.us/j/96388836405 Alice is a big fan of the show Three’s Company and in this class, Alice will talk about the characters, the setting, the story, and how all these factors come together to make an engaging show! Join Alan as he discusses the amazing Batman show! This show originally ran in the 1960s and Alan will discuss the amazing characters, the actors, and the plethora of guest stars! In this class, Alan will discuss the importance of Ethan Allan to the history of the state of Vermont as well as the United States as a whole. EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS May 31, Memorial Day - No Classes 9 TITANIC FACULTY: Lisa DATE: Monday, June 7 2:30pm - 3:00pm ZOOM: https://zoom.us/j/96388836405 Lisa invites you to join her as she presents a class about the famous ship the H.M.S. Titanic. It set sail over 100 years ago on its maiden voyage to America. On the Titanic’s journey, the ship struck an iceberg and sunk, taking with it many of the passengers. Global Campuses Foundation received generous grants from Mascoma Bank, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, and the Agnes M. Lindsay Trust to purchase a limited number of laptops and iPads to create a loaner library. Contact your Academic Coordinator for more information!
