Welcome to Our Global Campus SPRING Semester 2021 Global Campuses Foundation (GCF), a 501(c)(3), supports adults with differing abilities worldwide in the development of campuses for higher learning. Academics are tailored to an individual’s Northeast Kingdom Human Services, passions, interests and abilities. In Upper Valley Services, Lincoln Street, addition to being a student learner, each Inc., Lamoille County Mental Health participant is given the opportunity to Services, Champlain Community lead classes and teach to their peers. Key Services, Families First, and Washington to our mission is valuing the voice and full County Mental Health Services, as participation of adults with disabilities well as a wide variety of individuals, in the development and operation of organizations and businesses that each Global Campus. GCF partners with support the work of the campuses. Featured GC MORETOWN Participant ChriS Chris is one of the newest members to join GC Moretown, and he was quick to jump right in and become a faculty participant. He has taught a cooking and informational class about Belgium and demonstrated how to make Belgium waffles. Most recently he taught a multimedia style class looking at the different ways nature in portrayed in various Disney Films. Chris is well known for his “punny” sense of humor, kind heart and big smile. When asked what he liked most about teaching classes at Global Campus, he said “being myself, using PowerPoint and the new knowledge.” We are grateful to have Chris at GC Moretown. 2 | Global Campuses Foundation | Spring 2021 Catalog
Global Campuses Foundation 2020~ 2021 Academic Year Theme OUR NATURAL WORLD Take a journey with us this academic year as we explore our natural world. From the depths of the oceans to highest mountain peaks, we will learn about the world around us, what part humans play and what we can do to preserve our natural resources. Each campus will find unique and creative ways to explore this theme as the year unfolds through science, art, music and literature. Virtual Learning In person classes were suspended last spring due to COVID-19 but our learning continues! The campuses meet weekly and many participants have continued teaching via Zoom. Spring semester begins at the beginning of April and we will continue our learning virtually and follow VT Department of Health guidelines about when we can meet again in person. Please join us this spring for some exciting online classes! How to Participate at a Global Campus AS A STUDENT LEARNER PARTICIPANT you can register for educational offerings and become a learning member of the campus; AS A FACULTY PARTICIPANT you can teach and share about a subject, topic, skill, and/or experience; AS A STAFF PARTICIPANT you can become a staff member of the campus supporting its development and successful operations. AS A COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER: Community volunteers are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways: assisting participants with research and class planning, supporting our faculty participants during their classes, co-teaching classes and helping with community service projects. EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS 1 BIGFOOT WAS HERE FACULTY: Daniel DATE: Friday, April 9 1:00pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81139151474 You might have heard of bigfoot, sasquatch, yeti, or ape-man, what all of these have in common is that they are a mysterious creature that is said to live in the woods in regions of North America. Daniel will explain the myths, discuss the areas of the United States where they have been sighted and talk about our own Bigfoot sightings right here in Vermont. 2 LEARN ABOUT ELEPHANTS WITH DOUG FACULTY: Doug DATE: Friday, April 16 1:00pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81139151474 Join Doug as he teaches us all about the largest existing land animal. Look out for your interactive class packet in the mail to go along with Doug’s class. PLEASE, do not open the packet until the day of class! We will learn about the regions where they live, the various species of elephants and test our knowledge by playing elephant trivia. 3 FAITH’S GYMNASTICS ACADEMY TOUR FACULTY: Faith DATE: Friday, April 23 1:00pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81139151474 If you attended the Global Campus talent show, then you are probably familiar with Faith’s outstanding gymnastics performance. During this class we will get a closer look inside Faith’s very own Gymnastics’ Academy, she will explain all the equipment she uses, demonstrate how it is used and talk to us about safety while performing gymnastics. 4 | Global Campuses Foundation | Spring 2021 Catalog

He will be cooking one of his favorite dishes for us during Global Campus and discussing kitchen best practices and safety. 5 BINGO WITH PATSY FACULTY: Patsy DATE: Friday, May 7 1:00pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81139151474 Join Patsy as we have some fun playing virtual bingo. Bingo is a game of chance and luck; this is sure to be a fun day as we play to see who can earn the title of Global Campus Moretown Bingo Champion. 6 GRACE’S KARATE VIDEO CLASS FACULTY: Grace & Kirpan DATE: Friday, May 14 1:00pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81139151474 “Everybody was kung fu fighting” is what we will feel like singing during Grace’s class on karate. She will talk to us about some of her favorite karate films like Karate Kid and Cobra Kai. We will also get to try out our own karate skills with a full karate demonstration and lesson with Grace. 7 LEARN ABOUT LEOPARDS WITH GRACE FACULTY: Grace DATE: Friday, May 21 1:00pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81139151474 Come learn all about leopards with Grace, she will teach us about the regions where they live, their diet, and why Grace likes this animal. Join Anna as we experience birds and music. Global Campuses Foundation received generous grants from Mascoma Bank, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, and the Agnes M. Lindsay Trust to purchase a limited number of laptops and iPads to create a loaner library. Contact your Academic Coordinator for more information!
