National Updates Until the age of 18 students must either: • Stay in full-time education e.g. college or school sixth form • Start an apprenticeship or traineeship

• All of these routes could lead to University courses (though T Levels and A Levels are more direct routes) • If considering University – check to see what subjects universities recommend studying. Futures Week Rationale • The change in post 16 education requires us to consider more aspirational and long term career and educational opportunities. • Work experience takes place in sixth form colleges but could also take place during the school holidays for more extended periods of time. At sixth form, they are more likely to be able to access experience within the NHS, with solicitors, in education. • Recent research suggests that having initial introductions with a range of employers such as Futures Week is successful in raising attainment in GCSEs. • Positive student and parent feedback from the week

Thursday 11th July London Wembley Arena The following items are NOT allowed into Wembley and will be confiscated: • Cans, plastic drinks containers or bottled drinks as they are not allowed in the auditorium (or lids will be removed from bottles at the point of entry meaning having to carry an open bottle for the whole event). Only carton drinks are permitted. • Flag poles, GoPros, banners or selfie sticks with sticks or poles or anything that could be used as a weapon. • Glass • Alcohol • Laser pens, loud hailers or sirens. • Items which do not comply with Wembley Arena’s Health and Safety Guidelines.

Friday 12th July Unloc Challenge A day of business challenges designed to get students thinking about Unloc Challenge selling, marketing, advertising and to think strategically about the different skills needed in the work place University vists University of Winchester visit Workplace visits A day of taster lectures, campus and accommodation visits [50 students] University of Southampton visit A day of specifically Social Sciences related taster lectures (Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Politics, Health and Social Care), campus tour, why choose Higher Education? [25 students] Workplace visits ABP Ports have confirmed a workplace visit [25 students] Baulfour Beatty have confirmed a work place visit [10 students]
