News Flash! CVCC Board of Education January 7, 2021 Career Readiness at Cuyahoga Heights High School The Cuyahoga Heights High School Class of 2022 took part in a four-week Career Readiness unit concluding with Mock Interviews. The unit was taught and developed by Jennifer Hedinger, CVCC Career Specialist for Cuyahoga Heights. HR and career professionals representing various fields of interest interviewed students. Some of the interviewers were from the North East Ohio Regional Sewer District, the Cleveland Clinic, Jubilant LLC and NASA, in addition to staff members from CVCC. The students gained experience and learned about all the hidden rules and etiquette related to interviewing virtually via Zoom, Google Meet or other online platforms. Due to the pandemic, virtual interviewing will probably remain in effect with businesses in the future. It is important that young job candidates practice so they are successful when a job is on the line. Special thanks goes out to all participating interviewers and kudos to all the interviewees! 2020 Scholastic Art Competition Winners Congratulations to CVCC Digital Design students, Beck Tranter and Maria Cundra for winning gold and silver in the Scholastic Art Competition! Beck Tranter, a junior at North Royalton High School, won a Gold Key in the competition for his Autumn Still Life Drawing (pictured first). Maria Cundra, a junior from Nordonia High School, won a Silver Key in the completion for her Contour Drawing (pictured second). Students in CVCC’s Digital Design program, instructed by Mrs. Melissa Munro, competed in this competition, and Beck and Maria’s extra efforts and hard work paid off! Winning this competition was a great honor, as the artwork will be featured in an upcoming ceremony in the coming month. Great job Beck and Maria! Savory Creations with CVCC’s Hotels and Resorts Students Recently, CVCC’s Hotels and Resorts students, instructed by Mrs. April Moné, collaborated with Brecksville Broadview Heights High School Intervention Specialist for Environmental Science, Alyson Robertson, on making homemade butter. The students connected virtually to learn how to create the butter from scratch, which went
perfectly with the homemade breads the students had made earlier. Bread flavors included zucchini cheddar, pepperoni, carrot, and fresh herbs and cheddar. Keep up the exciting and collaborative efforts! CVCC LPN Students in Interactive Labs CVCC’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) students are obtaining quality hands-on learning through interactive lab work opportunities.
