5 Single Day Events January 03 2020 (Friday) Flute Street: Toronto's Professional Flute Choir Join us at Toronto Reference Library for a Holiday performance by Flute Street! Toronto's Professional Flute Choir is an ensemble of talented musicians who play eight different sizes of the modern Boehm flute, from the tiny piccolo, through the treble flute in G, the standard flute in C, the alto flute in G, the bass flute in C, the contr'alto flute in G, the contrabass flute in C, to the deep-voiced double contrabass flute in C. This performance will included selected members of the choir, including 2 of the largest flutes in existence! All are welcome. Drop in. No registration required. The class will begin with some deep breathing to calm the mind and body followed by an ancient form of yoga meditation known as mantra meditation. By focusing on these ancient transcendental sounds one experiences relief from stress and anxiety a feeling of real happiness. This feature documentary by acclaimed filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin profiles Indigenous leaders in their quest for justice as they seek to establish dialogue with the Canadian government. In this class you will learn the basics of knitting - how to start and end a project, and to do a knit and purl stitch, as well as how to choose a pattern and yarn. All supplies will be provided. Enjoy listening to the crunch of the snow and the jingle of the bells with each step you take on this winter walk. Plus, learn a few fun nature facts about the animals in High Park during the winter months. Afterwards, Jingle back to the Lodge to warm up with hot cider and even purchase your own jingle bells in the museum gift shop. "Fields of Exile" won the inaugural Canadian Jewish Literary Award. "The Dead Man" was praised internationally, received a Translation Grant from Canada Council, and was published in Hebrew this summer. Additionally, Gold coordinates the Wonderful Women Writers Series at Deer Park Library and edits the online literary journal JewishFiction.net (which has readers in 140 countries). "The Dead Man" is a beautiful, compelling novel about Eve, a feminist composer who - for no apparent reason - can't recover from a relationship that ended five years before. Then, during a one-week trip, she discovers the dark mystery behind her obsession, and everything begins to change.
