EDINA PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT 2018 Spring/Summer “We started with thinking we’d just add a planting area, then maybe a rock garden. Then we said maybe we need to have someone who knows what they’re doing,” said Liz Genovese, Co-Chair of the Memory Garden Committee. Genovese and Platt connected with landscape designer Tony Siebenaler-Ransom from Studio Tuske and Ben Erickson of b.e. landscape designs. Together, Erickson, Siebenaler-Ransom and the Garden Council hope to receive approval from the City Council and Parks & Recreation Department to proceed with the project in early 2018. “I’m working with them; this is their project,” emphasized City Horticulturist Tim Zimmerman. “I want them to know they’re in control, but they do have my support.” File photo If all goes according to plan, the walking paths inside the garden will begin to be paved once the ground thaws in the spring of 2018. Congratulations to Jones-Harrison on READY-SET-CONNECT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The goal of Ready-Set-Connect is to make the registration process as easy as possible 130 Years of Service to Older Adults! and to allow a person or a family to apply once in order to be eligible for scholarships with any affiliated group. This program is also designed to reduce the amount of paperwork for individuals and to allow easy access into programs in our community. The Ready-Set-Connect program is administered by the Edina Community Foundation. To apply, fill out and submit an online form at www.EdinaChallenge.org. (Paper applications are available from the Edina Community Foundation in English, Spanish and Somali.) Once your eligibility has been verified (usually within a week), you will receive a letter of notification and your Connect Card in the mail. Youth Programs & Camps Junior Golf Academy LITTLE TYKES Braemar Golf Course is committed to introducing youth to the game of golf and developing their skills. The Junior Golf Ages 6-7 Academy offers lessons, leagues and camps. Little Tykes is an introduction to the game of golf. Each class is 30 minutes, once a week for four PGA JR. GOLF LEAGUE weeks. Maximum class size: 5. The PGA Junior Golf League is a traveling golf league for boys and girls ages 10-13. Youth Programs & Camps BEGINNERS’ LESSONS AGES 7-13 Our instructors will teach the basics of tennis, including ground strokes, serve and volley and scoring. Beginners will appreciate the low instructor-to-student ratio of 1:5. Participants need to provide their own racquets; tennis balls are provided. Cost is $65 per session. Note: evening lessons marked with an asterisk do not meet on Fridays; cost is $40.
