TD WELCOME
I would like to thank everyone for attending this
year’s Memorial Championship tournament. We
are very excited to be launching the Disc Golf
Pro Tour season in Scottsdale and Fountain Hills,
Arizona. In 2019 we once again have more than
400 of the World’s best competing at one of the
richest events in disc golf!
This year’s event, like each before it, couldn’t be
done without the help of our tireless volunteers.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally
thank them for devoting a great deal of their
personal time toward making this tournament
a success. They really help put things together
as the event nears, not to mention their long
days on the course and I appreciate all of their
support.

THE MEMORIAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Remembering all those who have gone before us.
This tournament started in 1989 after Bob West passed away on
May 5, 1988. Through 2003 the event was known as the Bob West
Memorial. Bob was a player who lived in southern California and
traveled to Arizona often to compete in events. Bob passed away
from a blood clot in his lungs at the very young age of 26 years.
Over the years, with the passing of many others who love and play
the sport, it was decided to recognize and remember all those who
have gone before us. Although Bob’s name was dropped from the
title, this event is still dedicated to his memory. Bob loved traveling
to Arizona to play golf. One of his first golf experiences in AZ was
playing the old Papago Park course in the late 1970s.
The friendships he made while in Arizona drew him back regularly.
He made competing at the Shelly Sharpe Memorial in Scottsdale
in October an annual event. Likewise, he accommodated friends
from Arizona when they traveled to California for disc golf events. It is our hope
that all the competitors enjoy the weeks’ events with a spirit of fun and fair play!
Susan Lynn Ginnelly (March 6, 1966 – September 4, 2012)
Sue lived her early years in Worth, Illinois, before moving to Phoenix, Arizona in
1979. She graduated from Greenway High School and briefly attended Arizona State
University. She was married to Dan Ginnelly on July 3, 1992; they were married 20
years, and were blessed with two beautiful children, Alex and Maya. She was part
owner and managed Spinners on the Green, a disc golf and bike rental company
in Scottsdale, Arizona. She devoted much of her spare time to her family and the
promotion of disc golf in Arizona. Sue was an instrumental part in making the
Memorial Championship what it is now and we continue to miss her knowledge and
insights. All we can do is take from what she left us and build upon it as best we can.
