SOUTH AFRICAN SAILING TEAM NPC 2021 Annual Report The SAST continued with the Committee of David Booth, Gareth Blanckenberg and Dominque Provoyeur reporting to SA Sailing though Bruce Keytel, SA Sailing Performance & Training Councilor. These persons are also the Directors of the NPC. There is a possible to get a wider involvement of committee member from the northern regions. However, as things currently stand, the committee is very effective and continues to embrace the SA Sailing Strategic Plan 2015 to 2024. SAST follows the Pathway Document, Sailing for Life Pathway, that was presented in December 2018. SAST is responsible for level 9. The SAST Mission Statement is to Enable a gender and ethnically diverse South African team of sailors to medal at the World’s top sailing events. For fleet racing, these events are the Olympics and World Sailing championships. The selection criteria policies need to be set. Specifically, as we move towards Paris 2024 and the lessons learnt from the Tokyo 2020 selections. Ultimately the Olympic team was select by SASCOC, with recommendations in line with the SASCOC eligibility Document and World Sailing qualification schedule , and by having secured the Continental qualification spot in both classes. SAST’s biggest challenge is developing revenue streams that can support the various projects to meet the high performance objectives and for athletes to achieve their maximum potential. A document outlining the various opportunities for revenue and funding has been formulated. However, it requires serious input to make it achievable and possible liaison with SA Sailing to start the initial kick start with the aim of meeting demands for preparing team for Paris 2024. There is international funding support for the IQfoil class which needs to be followed through. PAGE 6
