RAUL MIDÓN Presented in Collaboration with City Winery “ ... a one-man band who turns a guitar into an orchestra and his voice into a chorus.” — The New York Times Friday, October 1 8:00pm / Music Room / Tickets start at $30 Ever since being told when he was a child that his blindness meant that “you can’t do this, you can’t do that,” Raul Midón has lived a life devoted to beating the odds and shattering stereotypes. Midón has an incredible signature combination of silky voice and percussive guitar, which has led this soulful singer/songwriter to release 11 studio albums, two of which have been nominated for a Grammy Award. ISAIAH J. THOMPS ON QUARTET Presented in Collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center Friday, October 15 8:00PM / Music Room / Tickets start at $30 A frequent collaborator with contemporary jazz luminaries, Isaiah J. Thompson has emerged as a powerful pianist, bandleader, and composer. As a performer, he emits joy and conveys his personal experiences and everlasting love of jazz through the music itself. A recent graduate of The Juilliard School, he’s the recipient of the 2018 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award and won second place in the 2018 Thelonious Monk (now Herbie Hancock) Institute of Jazz International Piano Competition. A B E N E F I T C O N C E R T KATE BALDWIN CA B A R ET I N T H E M U S I C R O O M “Kate Baldwin … is an absolute knockout.” — The Wall Street Journal Saturday, October 23 8:30pm / Music Room / Tickets start at $75 Tony Award-nominated Kate Baldwin makes her Caramoor debut in a dazzling evening filled with music from the American Songbook. Her Broadway appearances have included Finian’s Rainbow, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Big Fish, and the 2017 revival of Hello, Dolly! in which her role as Irene Molloy earned her a Tony nomination. Stay for a champagne and dessert reception following the performance. Caramoor thanks The Adela and Lawrence Elow Fund for The Great American Songbook: 1900 to 1960 for preserving and sustaining classic American songs through live performances. Renowned cellist Marcy Rosen serves as this Mendelssohn: year’s Guest Artistic Director, working with Viola Quintet in A Major, violist Daniel Phillips to mentor five young Op. 18 instrumentalists. The weeklong residency Bridge: concludes with a concert in the Music Room, Sextet In E-flat Major, giving the public the opportunity to hear these Op. 107 exciting artists on their way to becoming leaders in the field. CALLISTO QUARTET 2021–22 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence Mozart: Sunday, November 7 String Quartet in 3:00pm / Music Room / Tickets start at $30 B-flat Major, K. 458, “Hunt” Praised for their “intensity and bravado” (Third Coast Review), the Callisto Quartet’s Ernst Stiefel residency continues this year Nathaniel Heyder: with two appearances that spotlight emerging composers and the New Work classic works that influenced them. In this performance, you’ll hear a (World Premiere) world premiere by Nathaniel Heyder, who was inspired by Brahms’ Third String Quartet, which was itself modeled after the Mozart Brahms: Quartet also on the program. Widely Partita regarded as one of the most important and distinctive pianists Chopin: of his generation, Hough has earned a multitude of prestigious Nocturne in F-sharp awards and a long-standing international following. THE ENGLISH CONCERT Harry Bicket, Artistic Director “One of the world’s finest early-music ensembles”— Observer Friday, November 19 Selections from Vivaldi’s 8:00pm / Music Room / Tickets start at $30 L’Estro Armonico Op.3 The English Concert performs a breathtaking all-Vivaldi program on authentic period instruments, including selections from the composer’s string concerti collection, L’Estro Armonico (The Harmonic Inspiration). Led from the harpsichord by Harry Bicket, the ensemble has established a worldwide reputation for the expressive vitality and technical quality of their music-making. A B E N E F I T C O N C E R T SARAH JAROSZ Saturday, December 4 8:00pm / Music Room / Tickets start at $125 Join us for an exceptional benefit concert and dessert reception to celebrate and support Caramoor’s Music Room programming featured throughout the year. With her captivating voice and richly detailed songwriting, Sarah Jarosz has emerged as one of the most compelling musicians of her generation. Her latest album, World on the Ground (2020), was nominated for two Grammy Awards and won in the category of Best Americana Album. Amidst her current projects, including co-founding the all-female supergroup, I’m With Her, the singer/ songwriter returns to Caramoor with her own band for an intimate performance. NEW YORK POLYPHONY “... Four male singers of superb musicianship and vocal allure.” — The New Yorker Saturday, December 11 5:00pm & 7:00pm / Music Room / Tickets start at $30 Sing Thee Nowell This a cappella vocal quartet brings their exquisitely blended voices back to the Music Room in Sing Thee Nowell, a program of sacred Christmas music spanning seven centuries. The Rosen House, splendidly decorated for the holidays, will be open for viewing one hour prior to each performance. The week will include daily coaching, rehearsals and workshops, and culminate in this performance featuring the results of their intensive work. A champion of the music of Florence Brahms: Price, Cann makes her Caramoor recital debut Ballade in D Major, Op 10, with two works by the composer: Sonata in E minor and No. 2 Fantasie Negre No. 1. (World Premiere) All three works share similar temperaments of introspection, suffering, and deliverance. A force that moves in mysterious ways.” — NPR BRAD M E H L D A U, P I A N O Thursday, April 14 8:00pm / Music Room / Tickets start at $30 World-renowned jazz pianist and composer Brad Mehldau performs an intimate solo concert. An improviser first and foremost, he greatly cherishes the surprise and wonder that can occur from a spontaneous musical idea, but he also has a deep fascination for the formal architecture of music and it informs everything he plays. The two sides of Mehldau’s personality — the improviser and the formalist — play off each other, and the effect is often something like controlled chaos.
