Important entry notes for competitors – please read carefully A maximum of 3 entry tickets per horse will be allocated. Additional adult tickets can be purchased for £12.00. If you are a member you will receive an additional member ticket. One horsebox pass will be allocated per entry form. If you require extra horse- box passes or competitor car park passes, please specify this on your entry form. Prizes All prize winners will be awarded a prize voucher by the Steward. This can be either cashed on the day at The Bank (adjacent to the Show Office) or sent to the show office in Bramley for a BACS transfer. Please ensure your account details are written clearly on the voucher. Vouchers must be redeemed by 31st July 2020. British Showjumping classes in Ring 4 will be presented with a voucher to be redeemed at the Judges Box in Ring 4. These vouchers are NOT redeemable at the on-site bank or after the Show. Join the Surrey County Agricultural Society and save money on your entries. All exhibits in the Ridden hunter classes must be registered with SHB (GB).
The Ridden hunter classes will be judged under SHB (GB) 2020 rules.
Competitors may compete on a day ticket: see page 27
If the class is a qualifying class for RIHS, in order for the qualification to be
valid, application for full owner/rider membership and horse registration must
be received in the SHB(GB) office within 14 days.
1. Novice hunter, mare or gelding, any weight, 4 years or over, not having
won a prize of £60 or a total of £200 (or equivalent values) in prize
money in any SHB (GB) affiliated Ridden hunter classes at home or
abroad, before 1st January 2020, excepting all prize money awarded
as a four-year-old. Owners and/or riders need to be SHB (GB)
members and the horse needs to be on the SHB (GB) basic id. These
Page 10horses will be ridden by the judge and it is the owner’s responsibility
to ensure the horse is capable of being ridden by another rider. The
John McInerney Perpetual Challenge Trophy presented to the
winner.
The Polly Coles 4 & 5 Year Old Ridden Hunter Championship – The
top three horses from every SHB(GB) 4 year old ridden hunter class
and the top three 4 or 5 year olds in any SHB(GB) Novice Ridden
Hunter Class, held at shows prior to the 2020 Hunter Show will
qualify. Qualification will not pass down the line. At the final to be held
at the SHB(GB) National Hunter Supreme Championship Show at
Addington Equestrian 2020 (7th – 9th July 2020) the highest placed
4 & 5 year old will each receive £500, 2nd £350, 3rd £200, 4th £150 &
£50 to the highest placed amateur class. At the Championship 4
& 5 year olds will be judged separately.
2. Lightweight hunter, mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, capable of
carrying up to 79.5kgs (12 stone 7lbs).
3. Middleweight hunter, mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, capable of
carrying 79.5kgs (12 stone 7lbs) to 89kgs (14 stone).
4. Heavyweight hunter, mare or gelding, 4 years old over, capable of
carrying over 89kgs (14 stone).

(15.1hh). - to be judged as Cobs. Judges must pay
particular attention to type (i.e. short legged animals of COB type). To
be shown hogged. This class is not included in the Championship.
S1 - Best shod cob competition
£15 to winning farrier and £10 to the reserve.
A competition sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Farriers, for the Best
Shod horse in the Cob section, classes 5 to 7. The WCF will award a rosette
and an inscribed card to the winner in each class, a plaque to the overall win-
ner and a plaque for the Registered Farrier responsible for its feet and shoeing.
The judge will examine each horse before or during the line-up for preliminary
judging, taking into consideration:
a) Condition of the feet,
b) The making (or preparation) and fitting of the shoes,
c) Nailing and position of clips.

Society for the best registered pony owned by an NPS Qualifying or Life
member in the M & M in-hand section. The sponsors rosette is also awarded
to the pony receiving the qualification. Membership cards must be presented
in the ring to receive the medal and/or qualification.
Breed Societies will present a Special Rosette to the best in breed. Current
membership cards to be produced in the ring (if issued by the breed society).
Fell Pony owners to be a current FPS member - classes not open to section X.
GEMS will present a rosette to the highest placed Miniature Shetland,
exhibited by a member of GEMS. Members must wear their badges in the ring.

Please note the following SPSBS affiliation rules for classes 23 - 24:
1) This class is confined to SPSBS registered ponies. Ponies must be named on
the entry form. Society rosettes must only be given to ponies registered with
the Society or to foals eligible for registration.
2) Three year old fillies with foals at foot must not be shown. All foals must be
a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the show. Ridden stallions must
display a stallion bridle badge. In-hand stallions 2 years and over are advised
to display a stallion bridle badge.
3) Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire
males in this class. In the interests of safety, hard hats must be worn by all
handlers aged 14 years or under in in-hand classes. Exhibitors must not kneel
but remain standing while in the ring.

27. Equitation Championship Open qualifying class: Run under
SSA Rules defined in the current Members’ Handbook. Open to SSA
Members and Non-Members. Members carrying their current
Championship Points Cards are eligible for SSA rosettes to 3rd Adult
and 3rd Junior places and SSA Championship Points. Class may be
split into adult and junior if numbers allow. Southernden Farm offers a
rosette to the highest placed Member aged under 14 on 1st January
of the current year. A rosette in memory of The Late Mr R Philpot is
offered to the Adult Member and Manor Grange Stud Show Centre to
the Junior Member, judged to be the best turned out.
28. Side Saddle Costume Concours d’Elegance
The Surrey Union Perpetual Challenge Cup for the winner of this class.
The sole criterion for this class is the elegance of the picture presented by
horse/pony and rider and the way of going of the horse/pony. Safe tack must
be used. Detailed inspection of the rider’s period costume is not required.
Fancy dress is not permitted. Competitors are required to walk, trot and
canter. No individual show is required, but the judge may ask small groups of 3
or 4 riders to give short displays. A special rosette will be awarded to the
highest placed adult and junior members of the Side Saddle Association
carrying their current Championship points card. Juniors must wear hats to
current safety standard or above for this class. Adult riders not wearing such
hats do so at their own risk. Competitors should produce a brief resume of
their costume for the commentator.

Combination of horse and rider not to have entered any of the above affiliated
classes. The classes are open to amateurs & non amateurs, you do not have to
be a member of TSR or any society to enter. These are practice classes where
the judge will give feedback on individual show, presentation and technique.
Classes will NOT be placed, these are non-competitive classes. A rosette will
be presented to all participants.
The judge will be talent spotting in the ridden training class ONLY for the
TSR Training Pathway and Amateur Rider of the Year to be held at the TSR
Summer Show 18th -19th July 2020. To be eligible for talent spotting, riders

The in-hand Champion Donkey at this show automatically qualifies for the

donkey may win more than one Championship at shows but will qualify only
once for the DBS Champion Show. Where the in-hand Champion Donkey has

Donkey rules and regulations:
1. No person may deliberately enter or show a donkey under a judge who is
known to have either owned, bred, leased, sold, produced or prepared that
donkey. No donkey should be entered or shown under a judge who has owned,
bred or leased the sire of that animal. The breeder is the mare’s owner.
2. Entering one donkey and exhibiting another is not permitted. Once judging
has commenced, a donkey may or may not be led or ridden in or out of the
ring without the permission of the judge.
Page 293. No nomination entries are permitted. 4. DBS members must carry their DBS membership cards at all times when showing for production on request in order to receive DBS rosettes. 5. A judge will ask a competitor to leave the ring if either they or their donkey act in an improper manner. 6. Stallions and entire colts must be properly dressed in bridle and bit with the leading rein correctly attached to the bit. No person under the age of 17 may handle an entire donkey (foals excepted). No entire male donkey is allowed to compete in any children’s classes. 7. Young handler classes: To be judged on the ability of the Young Handler and not on the conformation of the donkey. A Young Handler is one who has not attained their 16th birthday on the day of the Show. 8. Championships: The 1st and 2nd prize winners from each class to parade in the ring wearing the appropriate rosettes they have already won. 9. Classes will start at 1pm. General rules and regulations – Please read.
These rules apply equally to competitors and exhibitors, to owners and/or
those responsible for a competitor or exhibitor.
Where relevant, all owners and riders should be a member of their respective
breed or showing Society. Horse and pony classes will be judged according to
their respective Society, Association or discipline rules.
Stallions must be wearing a bridle disc and/or tail ribbons to clearly identify
them as a stallion at all times. No member shall allow a stallion for which he/
she is responsible as owner, lessee, authorized agent or ride to compete or be
prepared to compete in any competition without taking adequate precautions
to ensure that other members of the public are not put at risk of injury.
Refunds are not permitted unless a veterinary certificate can be provided
showing proof of injury or illness for the animal entered. In this instance,
refunds will be given for the entry fee minus the RIHS levy of £9.50. No r
efunds of entry loss will be made if the show has to be cancelled for any reason
beyond the control of the Society.
The Society reserves the right to cancel any breed/type section with three or
less exhibitors, and to amalgamate or cancel classes where necessary. In the
event of a class having to be cancelled, the entry fees will be returned minus
the RIHS levy.
Any competitor intending to object to any exhibit must notify the Show
Secretary in writing within one hour of the class having been judged with a
deposit of £25.00, which will be returned if the protest is sustained, but if in
the opinion of the Executive Committee the objection is unreasonable, the
deposit will be forfeited. The decision of the Executive Committee shall be
final and binding to all parties.
Riders ages will be taken as on the date of the show, except where stated
otherwise. In classes run under NPS Rules the ages of riders and handlers are
all taken as at 1st January of the current year.
Page 31Please specify where possible whether you/your horse can be categorized as; novice, amateur, home produced or young rider. A judge’s decision shall be final. Neither the Society nor any of its officers or servants will be responsible for anything that may happen to exhibitors, their servants or any other person, or their respective property or animals, or to any exhibit at the show, and it shall be considered a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the Society blameless and that he shall be considered to indemnify the Society against any legal proceedings, claims or demands in respect thereof. Exhibitors acknowledge that they are taking part in a risk sport and agree to having achieved a level of competency. In addition, they agree that they understand it is their responsibility to insure their property, animals and livestock whilst on the Showground and hold full public liability insurance. The use of doping substances and controlled medication substances in equines competing at the Show will not be tolerated. Competitors should refer to the equine anti-doping and controlled medication rules issued by their governing body or society. Equine anti-doping and controlled medication testing may be carried out at the Show. If any member, competitor or exhibitor violates any of the rules or regulations, they will forfeit any prize or prizes to which they may be entitled and, if a member, be subjected to expulsion from the Society. Any dispute or doubt arising on any questions connected with the Society shall be referred to the Show Secretary in the first instance, who may refer the matter to the Society’s Chairman of Council or Chairman of the Horse Committee as appropriate. Pregnant equines where 90% or more of the gestation period has elapsed may not be transported to the show. In classes where there is a height restriction, entries may be measured on the ground, unless an Official Measurement Certificate is produced. Page 32
All those entering the rings with equines must be properly dressed i.e. wearing
suitable hats, jackets and their exhibit number where applicable.
Anyone riding an equine on the showground must wear a hat of a standard
approved by the governing body of their respective breed society, association
or discipline and under whose rules they are exhibiting and competing.
All equines should be accompanied by their approved DEFRA passport.
Horses must have been vaccinated to comply with the requirements of the
primary course (1st vaccination and then 2nd vaccination between 21-92 days
later) followed by the first booster (150-215 days) and all subsequent boosters.
Horses may compete having received the primary course and prior to the first
booster but not within 7 days of receiving a vaccine dose. Horses must have
been vaccinated within 6 months before the show but not less than 7 days of
arriving at the show.
No animals, other than that named and described in the catalogue can be ex-
hibited at the Show, and substitutions can only be taken up to Wednesday 20th
May 2020, with notification in writing to the Show Office. This is with
exception of the show jumping classes where special rules apply.
The Society reserves the right to alter the timetable of classes publicised at
short notice if deemed necessary.
The Surrey County Agricultural Society shall have power to interpret these
rules and the regulations above mentioned if there should be any ambiguity
or difference of opinion concerning the purport or intention of any rule or
regulation. The Society shall have power to deal with any matter not provided
for in these rules. A full copy of the articles of association of the society may be
obtained from the secretary on request.
The Surrey County Agricultural Society has taken reasonable precautions to
ensure the health and safety of everyone present at the show. Animals,however,
can sometimes be unpredictable. For these measures to be effective, everyone
must take all reasonable precautions to avoid or prevent accidents occurring
and must act upon the instructions of officials and stewards.

SHB (GB) rules: Ridden Hunter classes 2 – 4 are qualifiers for the 2020
RIHS and only horses registered on the Show Hunter Register are eligible to
enter. Registration numbers must be quoted on entry forms and owners and
riders must be members of the Society. The two highest placed horses in each
class will qualify to enter at the RIHS. No horse lower than second in its class

It is strongly recommended that competitors aged 18 or over wear correctly secured Skull Caps/Riding Hats that meet one of the following current safety standards: All PAS015, VG1, (BS) EN 1384 2017, ASTM F1163 04a onwards, SNELL E2001, SNELL E2016, AS/NZS 38382003 onwards and it is mandatory for competitors under the age of 18 to wear such skull caps or hats. Day Ticket : Competitors may compete on a day ticket and may have a maximum of two day tickets per season. Each day ticket is valid for one show and it covers owner and rider membership together with horse registration/ overstamp for that show. If the class is a qualifying class for RIHS, in order for the qualification to be valid, application for full owner/rider membership and horse registration overstamp must be received in the SHB(GB) office within 14 days. Classes: 2 - 4 (Ridden hunters). BSHA rules: Classes 5-7 (Ridden Cobs) are qualifiers for the 2020 RIHS. The three highest placed prize winners in each Open Affiliated class will qualify to compete in the BSHA Classic Supreme classes at the National Championship Show September 2020. Competitors qualifying at this show for the Royal International Horse Show
21st -26th July 2020 must submit their entries by recorded delivery post with
full payment within 48 hours of qualifying to The Showing Secretary, All
England Jumping Course, Hickstead, West Sussex, RH17 5NU. Schedules and
entry forms can be downloaded at www.hickstead.co.uk. All stallions must
be graded and licensed by BSPA and have a BSPA stallion ID card and wear a
BSPA stallion ID disc. No rider under 14 may exhibit a stallion in any class.
No competitor/owner/horse may compete in this class or enter the ring
without current 2020 membership of BSPA and a RIHS qualification card.
Memberships/horse registrations must be in place before you enter classes.
1st place and the next unqualified competitor standing 2nd or 3rd qualify from
each class. No competitor may qualify from lower than 3rd place. The highest
placed amateur and highest placed junior in each class qualify for Amateur
and Junior Supreme Championship Finals to be held at BSPA World of Colour
Championship Show 2020 at the College EC, Keysoe, Bedfordshire. Cards to
be shown and qualification card signed. All Champion and Reserve
Champion winners qualify for the BSPA Star Championships at the World of
Colour Championships.
Failure to comply with these rules will mean disqualification.
Classes: 9 -10 (Ridden skewbald and piebald)
World Championship of Colour 2020. Classes 9 & 10 (ridden
skewbald and piebald) and Classes 13 & 14 (in-hand skewbald and piebald)
are affiliated to the British Skewbald and Piebald Association and are
qualifiers for the World Championships of Colour National Championship
Show. All classes will be judged within the rules and criteria of the BSPA.

Equestrian Centre on the 16th August 2020, Equifest 2020 and BSPA 2020. No
membership is required to enter or compete in any Championship Final.
NPS Qualifying Rounds. These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS.
Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective Mountain and
Moorland Stud Books. Part breds are not eligible for Mountain and Moorland
Classes. Qualifying rounds are open to ponies owned by NPS members and
non-members but only ponies owned by adult NPS Qualifying or Life
members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition at the NPS
Summer Championship Show at Malvern from 31st July – 2nd August 2020.
The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will
qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and
second ponies are already qualified.
Classes 14 – 15 (M & M open ridden) and 20 - 26 (M & M in-hand).
Page 39NPS Silver Medal Rosette Championships. These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded when the owner of the champion pony is a Qualifying or Life member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships. Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show 31st July – 2nd August 2020. Classes 14 - 15 (M & M open ridden), 20 - 26 (M & M in-hand). The RoR Tattersall’s Thoroughbred Ridden Show Series Qualifier 2020. The first THREE go forward to the championship at the Hickstead Derby Meeting on 28th June 2020. All entries MUST be registered with the RoR and include their current competition registration number on entry form and have raced in GB. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force’. Please be aware that the show will split the class on the horse’s last run in a race (NH or Flat) or will provide 2 ride judges should the entries exceed 20. Please mark your entry form accordingly. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. Racing injuries and blemishes will NOT be ignored in this series. Class 8 Veteran Horse Society – Area Qualifier 2020. First round qualifier for the Veteran Horse Society Supreme Final: VETERAN HORSE OF THE YEAR 2020. Kindly sponsored by Allen & Page. Open to members and non-members. All competitors and grooms must adhere to the VHS rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification. Page 40
VHS Regional Final Qualification. All competitors placed 1st – 4th in each
Area Qualifier class will qualify for the corresponding class at VHS Regional
Finals. Members must carry their card in the ring at all times and have their
showing card signed by the judge as proof of qualification. Non-members will
receive a red qualification card which can be exchanged for signed showing
card when applying for VHS membership. It is the competitors responsibility
to present their Showing card to the judge. Regional finals are open to
members only.
All competitors are eligible to enter open classes at the National Veteran
Championships to be held on 2nd – 4th October 2020 at Arena UK,
Lincolnshire. No qualification or membership necessary. See VHS web site for

Classes 11-13
Side Saddle Association - Equitation Championship. Run under SSA rules
defined in the current members’ handbook. Open to SSA members’ and
non-members. Members carrying their current Championship Points Cards
are eligible for SSA rosettes to 3rd Adult and 3rd Junior places and SSA
Championship Points. Southernden Farm offers a rosette to the highest placed
member aged under 14 on 1st January 2020. A rosette in memory of the Late
Mr R Philpot is offered to the adult member and Manor Grange Stud Show
Centre to the junior member, judged to be the best turned out.
Class 27
TSR Showing Finals. This show is a qualifier for the 2020 TSR Showing
Finals. Qualify and enter ANY of the finals - Central, East Anglia, North West,
North East, South East, South, Wales and South West or Scottish. You do not
have to be a TSR member to qualify or enter a final. The Rider/Handler
qualifies and can enter any horse/pony in any number of finals.
TSR Rider Finals: 1st and 2nd riders qualify and will receive a qualification
card in the ring.
