eLearning Day 6 Packet - K 2019-2020 Please see the activities below to complete with your child on the eLearning Day. Have your child select activities to complete at home for each area to count as attendance for the day we would have spent at school. Child’s Name: ___________________________ Teacher: ___________________________ Kindergarten English Language Arts Activities: Please choose 3 of the activities listed to complete. Check and initial the items your child completes. I Can Statements I can tell the main idea of a text. I can create a written response to a question posed in a text. I can identify the short vowel / e / sound. I can identify and produce rhyming words. _______ Activity 1: Think, Collaborate, and Discuss- Read the story to your child, or listen to your child read the story "How We Get to School. Talk about the ways that your child and their friends get to school. Have your child write their own page, answering the question on the last page and illustrate the sentence with a picture of themselves getting to school. _______ Activity 2: Reading Comprehension- Reread or listen to your child, read the story "How We Get to School.” Have your child answer the attached comprehension questions about the text. _______ Activity 3: Short vowel /e/ sounds–After rereading the text “How We Get to School, have your child to create as many short vowel / e / words as they can using the letter tiles provided. Write the words on a separate piece of paper provided below. (Examples-wet, red, peg, bet, web, men, etc.) _______ Activity 4: Rhyming Words Complete the rhyming words activity by choosing the correct picture to place beside the corresponding picture that rhymes and then drawing another picture that also rhymes with the two pictures. _______ Activity 5: Writing Simple Words Have your child create labels for different things around the house. Make sure they are “stretching” the word, listening for each sound they hear and writing those sounds in the order they occur. It is okay if they are not spelled correctly, but you may guide your child by saying, listen for the first sound; what sound comes next, etc. Examples include labeling the TV, rug, plant, basket, cup, plate, book, etc. _______Activity 6 (Optional): Access LexiaCore5 and complete a minimum of 15 minutes of instruction. Please refer to login information. Reading Standards Standard 2: Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds Standard 3: Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words Standard 4: Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. Standard 6: Summarize key details and ideas to support analysis of thematic development. 1
Kindergarten Math Activities: Please choose 3 of the activities listed to complete. Check and initial the items your child completes. I Can Statements: I can I can count to show a given number up to 10. I can create a graph using a given data set. I can create patterns using colors. I can analyze and collect data. I can describe the physical attribute of capacity and compare two objects’ capacities. _______ Activity 1: Count and Graph Complete the count and graph activity by counting how many objects, recording the number, and then filling in the graph to show which object has more and less. _______ Activity 2: Coloring Patterns Read Violet Makes a Pattern. Complete the coloring patterns page using two different color crayons and creating the given pattern. _______ Activity 3: Food Shape Hunt Discuss with your child the shapes in their lunch or snack today. Do you have rectangle crackers or square bread? Do you have cylinder sausages or cheese sticks? Draw and label the shapes in your lunch. _______ Activity 4: Household Sorting Have your child sort household items such as unloading the dishwasher and sorting forks and spoons, plates and bowls, then counting the amount of each item they sorted. Discuss the groups using math vocabulary like more/less, longer/shorter, etc. Draw a graph on a blank page for extra practice. This activity could also be done by sorting the laundry. _______ Activity 5: Capacity Choose three different cups from the cabinet and without putting any water in them try to order them from “holds the most” to “holds the least”. Test your hypothesis by filling each with water from a measuring cup. Record how much water they held. Was your hypothesis correct? Repeat this activity with a cup, a bowl, and a Tupperware container. Discuss with your child which was easier – the three cups or the three mixed objects. Talk about how things can be wider and shorter but still hold more than something tall and skinny. _______ Activity 6 (Optional): Access Dreambox Learning and complete a minimum of 15 minutes of instruction. Please refer to login information.. Math Standards K.NS.5 - Count a given number of objects from 1-20 and connect this sequence in a one-to-one manner. K.G.1 Describe positions of objects by appropriately using terms, including below, above, beside, between, inside, outside, in front of, or behind. K. G.2 Identify and describe a given shape and shapes of objects in everyday situations to include two-dimensional shapes (ie. triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon, and circle) and three-dimensional shapes (i.e. cone, cube, cylinder, and sphere). K.G.4 Analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes of different sizes and orientations using informal language. 2

I can classify (group) animals based on my observations. _______ Activity 1: Coin Chemistry Complete the coin chemistry activity that follows. Use two aged pennies, white vinegar, and salt to show how copper pennies start to turn blue over time. Connect this to Social Studies activity 1 with the Statue of Liberty turning blue. . _______ Activity 2: Use the animal sorting cards to sort animals two different ways. (ways they move, how many legs they have, if they fly or do not fly, type of skin - fur/feathers/scales, bright colors/no colors, spots or stripes, etc.) Science Standards K.S.1A.1, K.L.2A.3 Kindergarten Social Studies Activities: Please choose 2 Social Studies activities to complete from below.
