As we continued learning about our personal hygiene to- day, we focused on germs. For Arts and Craft the children selected one of the two germ outlines and used a variety of materials to collage their germ. Using the glue stick they spread the glue across their paper before spreading out the crepe paper, wrapping paper and foam shapes. Once they were finished the each chose the amount of eyes they would like to complete their germs. As each germ does not look the same the children’s germs are unique as well, ranging from one eyed to having six eyes.
To continue on from our activity yesterday, the children got engaged in some playdough play with the pipe clean- ers and googly eyes. They used their fine motor skills and creativity to imitate the image of germs with the playdough. Despite it not being a germ creation, Violet was very happy with her creation and mentioned what she made was a cake, Miss Taylor then sung the Happy Birthday song to her and she pretended to blow out the candles. Spencer, Mikayla and Nate were inspired from Violet and also created a birthday cake, and Miss Taylor sung the Happy Birthday song to each of them.
To continue learning about germs the children engaged in the germ I spy activity. Miss Briohny filled the water trough with shredded paper and scattered germ pictures in amongst the paper. Using their hands they searched through the paper, using their sense of touch to locate the germs. Upon discovering a germ the children cele- brated their achievements.
Before lunch we decided to do some dancing on the mat for group time. Miss Briohny put on some fun dancing music and all of the children wanted to get involved. Mikayla, Spencer and Yoonu held hands and spun around in a circle until they got dizzy and fell down. Mikayla and Nathaniel asked Miss Stacey to pick them up and they watched themselves in the mirror on the wall while they danced. Xin Yan joined in from the table and made up her own dance moves. In a Wiggles song the children practiced their balancing on one foot. Everyone had a great time and did so much dancing that they were all very ready for rest time at the end.
We were lucky to be able to enjoy some outdoor play this morning. At the table Spencer and Mikayla used their imagination and crea- tivity skills to work with the Lego’s. selecting the blocks one by one they worked with trial and error, connecting the blocks to create the shape they had in mind. Nathaniel demonstrated his gross motor skills as he climbed along the obstacle course ,while on the mat Thomas spent some time playing with the animals in the dolls hose. Thomas and Yoonu also enjoyed riding the bikes together around the yard, taking turns being the leaders. Before coming inside Violet and Yoonu worked in the sandpit, using the shovels to dig the sand and to pour it back into the sand. Yoonu picked one of the diggers and used it to move around the sand, scooping sand and pouring it into another spot.
