ROYAL LONDON YACHT CLUB 1838 Cowes Week 2018 Programme of Events Friday 3rd August to Sunday 12th August
Introduction by The Commodore Every Cowes Week at the Royal London Yacht Club is special, but our 180th Anniversary year demands something more. I am truly proud of our new hospitality team headed up by new Head Chef Tomas and House Manager Phillip. Over the last few weeks, they have been working tirelessly with Diana McNeill, Jeremy Seale and Julia Dams under the leadership of Rear Commodore House Brian Howard, creating new ideas and refreshing established favourites to produce what will undoubtedly be a magnificent Cowes Week 2018 at the Royal London. The emphasis for the formal events is on delivering outstanding food and wines, focussing on presentation and service, as befits the elegance of our beautiful Clubhouse and gardens. This year we will return to the traditional Royal London Ball, as enjoyed in the halcyon days of the 1960’s and 70’s – arrive at 2100 for a Grand Ball occasion, preceded by a choice of several dining arrangements. In somewhat of a coup, we have secured one of Britain’s best loved party bands, “The Dark Blues”, whose repertoire spans several decades of popular music, and features the amazing vocalist Annabel Williams, once vocal coach to the late Amy Winehouse. For those not dining elsewhere, dinner will be available at the Club prior to the ball, with a choice of two options – the Dining Room for up to 40 people, or a sumptuous hamper delivered to yachts moored on the London Landing (both options subject to reservation). This year in particular, we wish to extend a warm welcome to members of our reciprocal clubs around the world, to share with us our 180th Year celebrations. We do hope that they will treat the Club as their home in Cowes, and join us to enjoy the Ball and formal dinners, and also to socialise and dine whilst watching the spectacle of over 800 yachts racing on the Solent. The Red Arrows air display and the fireworks will mark the beginning of the end of another successful Lendy Cowes Week. Where better to view this and enjoy the evening with friends than on the Royal London balcony, accompanied by a supper of Moules and Frites or the Club menu alternatives with a chilled Sancerre. Once the racing is over and the yachts packed away, please join me for the Commodore’s Rally to Newtown Creek on Sunday, where we will raft up for convivial conversation and lunch. Craft of all types are welcome, and we will all benefit from the perfectly-timed neap tide each way. I look forward to seeing you all at Lendy Cowes Week 2018. David N Gower Commodore 2
