55th DEUCE 1|9 55th DEUCE: December 2019 The President and Committee would like to wish all members and their families a peaceful and safe Christmas and Happy New Year 2020. President’s Message: We end 2019 with soaring temperatures behind us and much to look forward to in 2020. The club has lodged plans with the City of Subiaco for building improvements (see later section on Facility Improvements) and the also expects to have in place late in 2020 our own contract for maintenance of the grass courts. This should enable the club to maintain some grass courts for play throughout the year, and if all goes according to plan, we will be able to install lights on the middle bay of grass courts in 2021. Although we have seen a slight decline in membership numbers this season the club has a strong and committed membership and it has been good to welcome a number of new members this year. The Hopman Cup may be no more but the new ATP Cup promises to be every bit as enjoyable, and I hope members will get along to support the event. James Edwards, President

This presents a huge opportunity to further grow participation in tennis. The club will receive a promotional pack valued at more than $2,500 including: Equipment and signage Marketing templates; Posters, Facebook Posts etc How to Guides Program delivery training Being a part of this initiative will link the club directly to Tennis Australia’s “Get Your Racquet on” marketing campaign. The intention is to open two courts on Wednesdays from 5.45pm for one and a half hours. The program will initially run for eight weeks from the end of January. Anyone can book online to drop in and participate in activities with Tennis Factory coaches acting as on-court hosts, and we are looking for members to volunteer as off-court hosts. Many thanks to Dean Fehlberg for his assistance in this. Public Open Day: 26 October 2019 The Club Public Open Day was advertised in the POST newspaper on 19 October 2019, with a good response. The club was delighted that Malcolm Mummery was able to be our guest of honour and declare the new season open.
55th DEUCE 5|9 It was a great day for tennis as well as chats with old and new faces, plus beautiful afternoon tea (with various delicious cakes). The Junior Pennants Shield Presentation was also done on the day. The shield was presented by Malcolm Mummery to the Orange Ball team of Julia Pedrini, Chase and Kiefer Yuen, Dylan and Copper Wauchope.
55th DEUCE 6|9 Juniors (Matt Bull Tennis Factory) Summer pennants round-up All of our 10 junior teams are going well. Well done to our green ball girls’ team (read up on those players in our Fed Cup blurb below) who although they haven’t won a match yet are improving each week and are enjoying playing together. Also well done to our top yellow ball 12 and under boys’ team who are playing division 2 although for most of them this is the first season of playing pennants. Again, they are learning a lot each week and we know it is only a matter of time before they start winning regularly. Fed Cup Visit Six lucky junior girls from the club (Jasmine Boyle, Tessa Burns, Amy Dufty, Grace Austin and Abigail and Tabby Smith) got to watch Ash Barty and the Australian team take on France in the Fed Cup final at RAC Arena (9 & 10 November 2019). It was an exciting day but unfortunately France won in the end. Regardless of the score this would have no doubt helped inspire them to play and one day perhaps emulate Ash too!
55th DEUCE 7|9 Tennis Factory & OPTC 10- year Anniversary On Saturday 2nd November we celebrated our 10 years coaching at the club with a Family Sundowner for club members and customers with over 130 adults and children attending. There was something for everyone including a musician, food and drink and entertainment for the children. It was nice to bring everyone together to celebrate our time at the club and thank everyone for their support and to also show our appreciation of the staff who do a great job encouraging people to play.
55th DEUCE 8|9 President’s Cocktail Reception 8 November 2019: The 2019 President’s Cocktail Reception was attended by 50 people, all of whom brushed up well and had a great evening as evidenced by photos below. If you are missing from the selection, it is likely due to the fact that the photographers were having too much fun to worry about lighting and focus when snapping!! A big thanks to Mary for all her work in organising, and to her helpers and Betsy for her very popular Limoncello, Prosecco and Berry Cocktail – named on the night the ‘Prez Cup’ (after the Fed Cup!); also thanks to our dedicated barman Aiden who always does a great job so we all get to enjoy the evening without worrying what needs to be done in the kitchen. Thanks to those who brought platters of delicious food and to our sponsor the Good Grocer (Brindle Group) who donated the two large scrumptious platters.
