The Epiphany of the Lord January 3, 2021 Formed Review Our Lady of Guadalupe When the COVID pandemic began, the US Catholic Bishops asked us to pray to Our Lady of Guadalupe. We all know the story of this patroness of the Americas. But do we know of her power? Do we know of the great and pure love she has radiated for centuries? In the video Guadalupe – The Miracle and the Message FORMED tells us parts of the Guadalupe story that we may have never known before. Do you know what native symbols in this image caused the people to be- lieve that the Virgin Mother had come to crush the cruel religion of the Aztecs? Do you know the rough cloth usually rots away in only about ten years? Do you know of the many tests that have been done on the image? Endless study of St. Juan Diego’s tilma has always led to the same conclusion. This image could not have been made by human hand. It is truly miraculous! The power of Our Lady of Guadalupe goes beyond an image on a rough piece of cloth. The impact Our Lady had was and remains unprecedented. Other nations were converted because kings demanded it or priests worked long years. But the appearance of the Virgin Mary on December 12, 1531 led to the largest conversion of native people that has ever occurred in the history of our Church. Today, the shrine of Our Lady of Guada- lupe is the most visited shrine in all the world. This 50-minute video is definitely worth the time! I think Guadalupe might be one of my favorite FORMED videos. What is your favorite FORMED video, book or talk? Please let us know. Finding the very best in the vast ar- ray of FORMED resources will take input from all of us. Please share what you have liked. Email sueer- schen@swbell.net We look forward to hearing from you.
