The Center at Founders Village Page 3 Nora’s News ~ Come Together….Right Now! I am writing Nora’s News in a quiet senior center, it just does not seem right! I miss you all! We are definitely in trying times and uncharted territory for our community, county, state, country, and world. I do believe that we are coming together in a way that will keep our community safe and healthy. Even though it is not easy to isolate, and isolation goes against everything we talk about in staying healthy, we must do this to insure we get through this coronavirus with our people safe and sound. This is a global issue like no other I have ever experienced. Maybe it has to happen so our world will come together! The sacrifices we are making at this time are not easy, but if we are able to save one person’s life, it is completely worth it! There are some things you can do with the down time, for sure clean closets and drawers, which is what I would do if I was sent home. Also, be sure you stay active, maybe put on YouTube for exercise videos; like yoga, dance or aerobics. Practice meditation and mind fullness (that is always a tough one for me) and of course, pick up a good book or check out some pod casts! You can also check on a friend or two via telephone. Watch some comedies on television; remember that it is good to laugh, when we laugh it produces endorphins which are good for our brains. Remember to be kind to your adult children, they are checking on you because they love you, and want you to stick around awhile! Even though we cannot be near one another at this time, remember we are all interdependent, and keeping the safe social distancing will allow us to come back together as soon as possible. Our staff at The Center at Founders Village Senior and Community Center are available to assist via telephone Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Hop On Senior Transportation is operating. And currently our congregate meal program is distributing five frozen meals on Thursdays to our senior residents to take home to prepare in their microwave or oven. Meals on Wheels Orange County is doing a phenomenal job in making sure our seniors have food. The suggested contribution continues to be $3 per meal. Our city officials, and our outstanding employees are doing everything possible to keep our community safe and healthy. Our volunteers are usually the ones to assist in keeping The Center going, again, it is so strange not having our core group of volunteers here making GREAT stuff happen! It is April, Volunteer Appreciation month, and even though we do not know when we will be able to formally acknowledge our volunteers, we would be amiss to not mention our fabulous group of dedicated individuals that give so freely. Our volunteers are truly the HEART of The Center at Founders Village Senior and Community Center. On behalf of our team at The Center, thank you to our volunteers, who are our extended family, and you mean the world to us! “Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” Elizabeth Andrew Through these difficult times, let’s try to stay in a joyful state of mind. On behalf of our staff, please know you are all in our thoughts, and want you back to The Center as soon as possible. We will get through these difficult times, and come back together with lots of stories to share! Take good care and I’ll see you around The Center hopefully very soon! Nora Nora B.K. Webb Community Services Manager
