Jan 17th, 2020 GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT - Rob McPake Greeting members; welcome back to January and the start of the roaring twenties of the second millennium. Our popular Friday and Saturday night music is back in full swing and our weekly bingo, gaming and raffle promotions have all recommenced and are humming for your entertainment and enjoyment. Make sure to be here next Friday, 24th January 2020 for our first Monster Raffle of the season. The promotion will feature a trove of treasured prizes, valued at over $2,000, including quality meats and poultry; ten (10) quality select gift baskets; and a wide array of cash to give away! The theme will be an Australia Day celebration with music provided by our Kiwi brothers, Lance and BJ, aka Back 2 Front, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. If the 2nd Chance Jackpot Draw, currently standing at $1,000, is not won on the spin this evening, it will be an instant win for a lucky winner on the Monster night. Who could do with a $1,000, especially at the moment? Could be you! Be at the Club You Love to enjoy all the fanfare, win some smashing prizes, social interaction and bop till you drop: MONSTER AUSTRALIANA RAFFLE NIGHT!!!! Additionally, for any of our members who may be interested, we will be running a free sausage sizzle from 3:30 pm to 7:00pm on Monday, 27th January 2020 to commemorate Australia day. This has been gazetted a public holiday and, just a reminder to our members, our Club bistro is closed on Monday evenings so this promotion may provide a source of sustenance to those who are feeling peckish. Our trading month of December 2019 proved relatively successful with the numbers at our entertainment and promotional events showing a moderate increase during extremely difficult trading times. We commenced our renewals for 2020 membership on Monday, 2nd December 2019 which is about two (2) weeks later than in previous years. Contrary to the rumours we were ceasing trading, this was primarily due to confusion over individual sub-Branch payment of capitation fees for service members; a communication debacle resolved in early December. To date, one thousand six hundred and ninety five (1,695) members have renewed for 2020 from a 2019 membership base encompassing three thousand seven hundred and fourteen (3,714). We have over two thousand (2,000) members who have not renewed at present, although further renewals continue on a daily basis. We will be mailing out correspondence to all 2020 financial members, providing details of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Sunday, 23rd February. Members who are not financial at this date will not receive detailed correspondence in the mail, so, please renew your membership. It takes less than two minutes; simply approach our helpful reception staff and switch from the GREEN card to the BLUE card. Although the Club will cease trading at some stage during the year, to be determined by your elected representatives who form the Board of Management, we need you all back on our books! This is most significant because a Club is constituted of members; not bricks and mortar. We need you all financial members to remain viable and move forward into the future. Please assist our cause! Additionally, when trading at your Club ceases at a subsequent date in time, all financial members will be provided with a transitional membership card paid for by the Club. This will maintain your continuity of membership until the new Club house is complete in early 2023. Some confusion prevails over the provision of the transitional membership card so, please let me qualify the following: 1. the transitional membership card will be issued to all financial members after the cessation of trading, at a date yet to be determined; 2. the Easts Group will provide a “caretaker role” in overseeing our membership base; we are not, as some have suggested, being taken over by the latter; 3. the card will consist of our own unique and autonomous brand; 4. for those who are not members of the “caretaker club”, the transitional card will permit entry and use of the facilities of the latter; and 5. in order to maintain your continuity of membership this is the appropriate course of action. I hope all members are aware of the importance of the continued support to your Club. The future development will ensure viability of a Club which has stood the test of time for over eight decades where others have fallen; please assist Your Club through this imperative passage of time. Please renew your membership; switch from GREEN to BLUE at the Club which needs YOU: CLUB BONDI JUNCTION!!!
PRESIDENT’S REPORT - Bill Harrigan Welcome to this, the first edition of our Newsletter for the year 2020. If I was told in 1996 I would still be writing columns such as this in the Club or sub-Branch Newsletters I would have said, you're dreaming. There is not a lot to report as we move into the New Year but there will be much to do later after the forthcoming Annual General Meeting which will take place in the Club Auditorium commencing at 11am on Sunday 23rd February 2020. We held our monthly Board meeting on Tuesday evening and following on the resignation of Director Denis Sheridan the Board voted to ask Jason Perica to accept the casual vacancy which he accepted. Jason served on the Board as an appointee up to the last elections and he is well versed in building developments and governance. I am sure he will be a worthwhile acquisition in the weeks to come, so please welcome Jason to the Board until the next elections in 2021. The Capital Bluestone Project Manager for our project, Mr. Tom Zdun has resigned and he will be replaced by Mr. Frank Xuereb who we had the opportunity to meet at a short Building Control Group meeting prior to our Board Meeting. Frank has worked with Capital Bluestone for a number of years and was involved in the Shark Park Rugby League development so he comes with a lot of experience. On behalf of the Board of Directors I thank Tom Zdun and his team for the great job he has done in finally getting our Development Application through Council. The next BCG meeting will be held at 3.00pm on Tuesday 11th February when we will be fully briefed on the Project Feasibility and Programme Post DA by Capital Bluestone and representatives have been invited to attend our AGM to provide a report and answer any questions posed by members attending. The Club is currently being audited by Phil Jones who will report to the Directors early next week. It is worthy of noting when reading the financials, the tremendous job our GM Rob and his staff and the Board, have done throughout 2019 in reducing our expenses and keeping the Club viable. And, a happy and healthy new year to all of our members and guests, and a poem by Henry Lawson in 1911 for you to consider. Bill Harrigan.
