COVID-19 is the name for an infectious disease caused by a new form of coronavirus: SARS-CoV-2. It was first identified in China in late 2019 and, because it is so contagious, it quickly transmitted around the world. COVID-19 is a serious health threat, and the situation is evolving daily. The risk varies between and within communities, but given the number of cases in Canada, the risk to Canadians is considered high. The main way COVID-19 spreads is from an infected person to others through respiratory droplets when in close contact. COVID-19 can also spread by touching something that has the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose or eyes with unwashed hands. You can transmit COVID-19 before you start showing symptoms or without ever developing symptoms. Aerosol transmission may occur, particularly in indoor, crowded and inadequately ventilated spaces, where infected people spend long periods of time with others. “Regardless of which COVID-19 variant is predominating in an area, we know that vaccination, in combination with public health and individual measures, continues to work to reduce disease spread and severe outcomes. In particular, evidence continues to demonstrate that a complete two-dose series of Health-Canada approved COVID-19 vaccines provides substantial protection. Based on the latest data from December 14, 2020 to August 7, 2021, 0.03% of fully vaccinated people became infected, with the majority of recent cases and hospitalizations occurring in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people. Each week for the period July 11 – Aug 7, on average the rate of new COVID-19 cases among unvaccinated individuals was 11 times higher than in fully vaccinated individuals; and the rate of COVID-19 hospitalized cases among unvaccinated individuals was 30 times higher than in fully vaccinated individuals. We must strive to have as many eligible people as possible fully vaccinated to protect ourselves and others.” - Health Canada COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 5
Symptoms of COVID-19 One of the frustrating challenges with COVID-19 is the wide variety of symptoms, and the fact that many infected people have little or no obvious symptoms. Symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure. Even with the mildest of symptoms, infected people can still infect others, passing the virus on without even knowing it! As well, many of the symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to those of a common cold or the seasonal flu – symptoms we typically ignore. Common symptoms include (As of August 18, 2021): • Fever and/or Chills A temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius/100 Fahrenheit or higher • Cough or barking cough (croup) Continuous, more than usual, making a whistling noise when breathing, not related to asthma, post-infectious reactive airways, COPD, or other known causes or conditions • S hortness of breath Out of breath, unable to breathe deeply, not related to asthma or other known causes or conditions • Sore throat Not related to seasonal allergies, acid reflux, or other known causes or conditions • Difficulty or painful swallowing Not related to other known causes or conditions • R unny, stuffy or congested nose Not related to seasonal allergies, being outside in cold weather, or other known causes or conditions • D ecrease or loss of taste or smell Not related to seasonal allergies, neurological disorders, or other known causes or conditions • Pink Eye / Conjunctivitis Not related to reoccurring styes or other known causes or conditions • Headache Unusual or long lasting, not related to tension-type headaches, chronic migraines, or other known causes or conditions • D igestive issues Like nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, not related to irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual cramps, or other known causes or conditions • M uscle aches Unusual or long-lasting, not related to a sudden injury, fibromyalgia, or other known causes or conditions • E xtreme tiredness Unusual, fatigue, lack of energy, not related to depression, insomnia, thyroid dysfunction, or other known causes or conditions • Falling down often For older people 6 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
The Impact of COVID-19 Beyond the mere discomfort of its symptoms, in some cases complications from COVID-19 can include serious conditions like pneumonia or kidney failure and, in some cases, even death. If you are experiencing any of the following issues, call 911 immediately: • S evere difficulty breathing (struggling for each breath, can only speak in single words) • Severe chest pain (constant tightness or crushing sensation) • Feeling confused or unsure of where you are • Losing consciousness Older people and those with underlying health conditions are particularly at risk for developing more serious complications. At-risk groups include : • Older people (increasing risk with each decade, especially over 60 years) • T hose getting treatment that compromises (weakens) your immune system (for example, chemotherapy, medication for transplants, corticosteroids, TNF inhibitors) • T hose who have a condition that compromises (weakens) your immune system (for example, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, immunodeficiency disorder) • T hose who have a chronic (long-lasting) health condition (for example, diabetes, emphysema, asthma, heart condition, COPD) • T hose who regularly go to a hospital or health care setting for a treatment (for example, dialysis, surgery, cancer treatment) Because the virus can be transmitted before an infected person shows obvious symptoms, it is spreading through our communities and has the potential to overwhelm our medical resources. The best solutions are to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and reduce contact with potentially infected people. If you have symptoms, protect your family and coworkers: Stay home. Stay isolated. Stay safe. COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 7
COVID-19 IN EVERYDAY LIFE We must get vaccinated against COVID-19 and consciously reduce contact with people, in case they – or we – are infected. The virus is still spreading through our communities. We all must take steps to stop the spread. There are six steps we can take to reduce the risk of COVID-19: 1. Get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 2. Wear a disposable, medical-grade face mask 3. Wash your hands 4. Practice proper hygiene 5. Maintain a physical distance of at least 2 meters from each other 6. Stay home if sick or potentially exposed to COVID-19 8 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
COVID-19 Vaccination Vaccination is the most effective way to protect our families, communities and ourselves against COVID-19. Evidence indicates that vaccines are highly effective at preventing serious outcomes, such as severe illness, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19. Canada’s vaccine strategy has been to vaccinate as many people in Canada as quickly and safely as possible for the greater benefit of everyone. The strategy has significantly reduced the number of cases, and prevented severe illness, hospitalizations and death. Evidence suggests that COVID-19 vaccines in Canada continue to be effective at providing protection against the known variants of concern at this time. In general, people are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after: • their second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer or Moderna vaccines) or • a single-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine) Progress is being made everyday as more and more people get vaccinated. Vaccination is a strong tool in our fight against COVID-19. When combined with public health measures and personal preventive practices, vaccination is much more impactful. COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 9
Wear a Mask It is widely recommended or required that people wear masks in any setting where they will be around other people, whether inside or outside. Research from the Center for Disease Control shows that transmission of the virus can be reduced by up to 96.5% if both an infected individual and an uninfected individual wear tightly fitted medical masks. A mask is NOT a substitute for physical distancing. Masks should be worn in addition to staying at least 6 feet apart, especially when around people who don’t live in your household. Physical Distancing One of the most effective precautions is to remain physically apart. In our daily routines, we should strive to stay two meters (six feet) from each other – about the length of a sofa. You can minimize close contact with others by: • A voiding crowded places, close-contact settings and confined and enclosed spaces. • Avoiding common greetings, like handshakes and hugs. • R educing non-essential activities and interaction outside your household. • L imiting contact with people at higher risk, like older adults and those in poor health. Remember, two metres apart … is a pretty good start! 10 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Hygiene Proper hygiene can help reduce the risk of getting infected or spreading the infection to others. ash your hands often with soap and water – for at least 20 W seconds – especially after using the washroom, when preparing food, and after coming into contact with surfaces that others may have touched. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. Carry some with you out in public, where you might come into contact with surfaces touched by others. ough or sneeze into a tissue or the inside of your elbow, not C your hand or into the air. REPORTING TO LDI In order to be permitted entry to LDI, you are required to: • Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or • Take 2 rapid COVID-19 tests – one upon arrival and one mid-way through your rotation. 12 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Before You Leave Home: Prior to travelling to site, everyone must complete a Symptoms and Risk Exposure Questionnaire via the Safe Site app. This questionnaire will ask you: • Are you experiencing any symptom related to COVID-19 • Are you currently under mandatory quarantine or subject to a public health order • Have been in close contact* with a COVID-19-positive within the past 14 days • H ave been in close contact* with someone experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 within the past 14 days • Have travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days * Close contact: being less than 2 metres away in the same room, workspace, or area or living in the same home, while not wearing the appropriate PPE. This questionnaire must be completed within the 12 hours prior to boarding the LDI bus or arriving at the Security Gatehouse. A Green Pass result means you can report to site. A no-pass Red Screen result means you must speak with the LDI Health Centre to assess whether or not you can report to site. NOTE: If you have a no-pass Red Screen and do not have approval from the LDI Health Centre to report to LDI, you will be forbidden from entering site. Your entry into site will be permitted based on: 1. Vaccination status or completion of rapid test 2. G reen Pass or approval by the LDI Health Centre (if you received a Red Screen) 3. Temperature check conducted by a security guard at the gatehouse COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 13
Travel To/From Site Via Shuttle Bus It is important to maintain as much distance as possible from others when on the bus. The following protocols are being enforced for everyone’s protection: • All employees taking the bus must be pre-screened with the Safe Site app prior to boarding and must have their temperatures taken. • Please load the bus back-first. And exit the bus front-first. • Disposable, medical-grade face masks must be worn for the entire duration of the shuttle bus drive. • Where possible, observe physical distancing. • Buses will be sanitized by the drivers after each trip, using the appropriate disinfection. 14 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Travel To/From Site Via Carpooling If you are driving a company vehicle, a face mask is required when two or more people are present. If you are driving a personal vehicle, we recommend following the same protocol. When driving to and from your home, please avoid all unnecessary stops in local communities along the way. Limiting exposure to outside communities where community spread may be active helps protect you, your family and your coworkers. Travel To/From Site Via Air Travel All passengers flying in Canada will be subject to a health check prior to boarding. Similar to LDI site entry, you will not be permitted to board if you: • Show any symptoms of COVID-19 or • H ave been refused boarding in the past 14 days due to a medical reason related to COVID-19 or • A re under mandatory quarantine or subject to a provincial or local public health order. You may be subject to additional provincial or territorial public health measures. COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 15

COVID-19 SCREEN TESTING AT LDI To gain access to LDI, any individuals– including employees, contractors and visitors – who are not fully vaccinated* against COVID-19 are required to participate in rapid COVID-19 testing twice per rotation: • First test: Upon arrival to LDI at the COVID-19 Testing trailer • Second test: Day 3 for 4/3 schedule and Day 5 for all other schedules It is your responsibility to report back to the COVID-19 Testing Trailer to get your second test. The Health Centre is tracking this process and those who miss the second test will be sent off site. The COVID-19 testing trailer is closed every day from midnight to 4am. If you plan on arriving at site during this time, and require rapid COVID-19 testing for entry, you must advise your supervisor in advance and wait outside the date until the trailer opens. *What does ‘fully vaccinated’ mean? 14+ days have passed since you received your second COVID-19 vaccine dose. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS I am not fully vaccinated yet. May I enter site without participating in rapid COVID-19 testing? No, not until you are fully vaccinated. To enter LDI you must either be fully vaccinated or participate in rapid COVID-19 testing. I do not plan to get the COVID-19 vaccine. What impact will this have? The health and safety of everyone at LDI is our number one priority. Vaccines are a critical layer of protection to prevent transmission of COVID-19. To allow your entry to LDI, we are accommodating your decision to not get vaccinated by requiring your participation in rapid testing upon arrival and mid-way through your rotation. I do not want to share my vaccination status with my employer. What impact will this have? The health and safety of everyone at LDI is our number one priority. Vaccines are a critical layer of protection to prevent transmission of COVID-19. To allow your entry to LDI, we are accommodating your decision to keep your vaccination status private by requiring your participation in rapid testing upon arrival and mid-way through your rotation. Will I lose my job if I refuse to participate in rapid testing? If you cannot show confirmation of full vaccination and you will not participate in testing, you cannot enter site. You will be placed on unpaid leave. How long will Impala Canada be mandating rapid testing? This mandate will be in place for as long as the threat of the pandemic remains. We will continue to work with the local Health Unit and monitor a number of external factors and will adjust our pandemic policies accordingly. I am fully vaccinated, may I still participate in rapid COVID-19 testing as a precautionary measure? Yes, anyone is welcome to participate in our rapid testing program. And we appreciate this participation and caution. We know that the combination of vaccines and rapid tests will further down community transmission to a point where we can effectively manage the virus. 18 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Site Exit and Travel Home The same site security protocols will be followed upon exit. You must complete the Safe Site app exit questionnaire and your temperature will be checked upon exit. Please travel home with the same precautions you used when travelling to site. COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 19
WORKING AT LDI DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC To help prevent the spread of coronavirus among individuals, we have introduced a Hierarchy of Controls that provides greater separation of employees in activities that would previously have involved close contact. 20 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Your Face Mask Keeping everyone at LDI healthy and safe is our number one priority. That is why when the Centre for Disease Control advised that when individuals wear a tightly fitted medical mask, virus transmission can be reduced up to 96.5%, we listened. A disposable surgical mask, CAN95 and CAN99 disposable masks are the only acceptable masks at LDI. Upon boarding the LDI shuttle and/or arrival at site, everyone will be given multiple disposable masks for use during your rotation and while travelling. Surgical Mask CAN95 Mask CAN99 Mask Please be sure to: • Dispose of your mask daily directly into a garbage bin • Speak to your supervisor if you need more masks • Carry an extra mask 22 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
*Face Mask Policy at LDI •M asks must be worn at all times anywhere on site wherever physical distancing is difficult. •Y ou are required to wear a mask 100% of the time when entering and walking around any camp or administrative building, including when walking the hallways of the cafeteria, kitchen and bunkhouse. •W hen at your destination within these areas, a mask must be worn only if physical distancing is difficult. •M asks must be worn on buses and in company vehicles (on or off site) at all times with two or more individuals. •A mask is not required in operating areas and facilities and outdoors, provided physical distancing can be maintained. Acceptable Mask *LDI’s Face Mask definition: A disposable surgical mask or disposable CAN95, CAN95e or CAN99 mask that is tightly fit, securely covers the nose, mouth and chin and is in contact with the surrounding face without gapping. Bandanas, scarves and buffs are not acceptable forms of face masks. COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 23

Seek medical attention.
COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 25
Workstations • Workstations are arranged to allow separation of at least two metres (six feet). • C lear signage about the desired positions of operators is placed at each workstation. • Avoid touching your face and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water multiple times a day. Crew Line-ups & Meetings We have put in place physical distancing controls that more safely allow groups of five people or more to be in the same area. Shift schedules have been staggered to reduce large groups moving at the same time. 26 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Travel While On-Site Transportation remains an area where workers are in close proximity. LDI’s Policy is consistent with Transport Canada’s Policy: masks must be worn whenever 2 or more people are present. Physical Distancing While Underground Physically distance where possible. If it is not possible to do so, a face mask must be worn, including when travelling in the cage. COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 27
The 3Cs & Personal Protective Equipment PPE can add an additional level of control, especially in situations of higher risk – known as the 3Cs: • C rowded places with many people nearby • Close-contact settings, especially where people have conversations very near each other • Confined and enclosed spaces with poor ventilation If work must be done less than two metres apart – and all other controls have been exhausted – we may provide workers additional PPE for the work being performed, as required: • N95 respirator masks • Half-mask respirator with p100 cartridge • Disposable nitrile or latex gloves • Foam gasket safety glasses • Disposable garments • Personal disinfecting kits (sprays, wipes, sanitizer gels, etc.) • Equipment disinfecting kits for pre- and post-use It is your responsibility to take care of the PPE you are issued, to use it correctly, and to respect the supplies needed in the future. 28 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Improving The Air Quality at LDI As another layer of defence against COVID-19, we have installed air purifiers in areas where our team gathers to help eliminate potential virus particles from indoor and further reduce the risk of exposure. These air purifiers do not change other pandemic protocols. Breathe Easy Each purifier uses both a HEPA filter and UV light to eliminate unwanted dust particles, germs and contaminants. COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 29
Sanitization of Common Areas Sanitize and disinfect all areas and items that have been touched by others, or that will be touched by others after you. These include: • Hand tools • Mobile equipment controls and access assist handles • Workstations and equipment • Restrooms • Cafeteria / lunchrooms • Lockers • Common surface areas • Meeting room surfaces • Computer screens and keyboards • Telephones 30 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Deliveries • If entering site, all drivers must be either fully vaccinated or take a rapid COVID-19 test to gain entry. • All delivery drivers must wear a mask. • Once the delivery type is established (warehouse, fuel, etc.) Security will notify an LDI contact to escort or direct the delivery to the appropriate location. • The LDI contact must remain at least two metres from the driver, and both must wear a mask at all times. Drivers may unstrap their loads or operate the forklift to unload, but are not allowed inside any building or in direct contact with others. • All paperwork (waive bills, etc.) will be given to the LDI contact or left in a mailbox at the warehouse. • All drivers will be directed or escorted directly back to the gatehouse. (No stopping at the kitchen along the way. COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 31
LIVING AT LDI DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC To further reduce the chance of COVID-19 spreading through camp, we created a number of protocols to reduce contact during everyday activities. In addition to these protocols, it is very important that we all continue to monitor our own health, each and every day. When you wake up, do a personal health check. If you think you might be experiencing any symptom, call the Health Centre immediately. 32 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Food Service Protocols Foot traffic routes and scheduled mealtimes have been adjusted to maintain proper separation as team members pass through the cafeteria: • Food service staff wear masks while preparing and serving food • Cutlery is handed directly to diners by food servers • Scheduled mealtimes and shift schedule • Seats and tables cleaned after each diner • Information on hand washing and physical distancing posted at dining room and lunch room doors • Cell phones are banned from the dining room and lunch rooms • Physical distancing markers on floor at service lines • One door in, with access to hand washing facilities; opposite door out • Cafeteria walls built to separate dining areas and help maintain physical distancing • Chairs removed and staggered to ensure distancing when eating • Wear your mask to and from the dining room and only remove it when eating at the table, seated 2 metres apart • Everyone must leave the dining room as soon as they are finished eating To further reduce dining room traffic, lunch and snacks are available 24 hours / day in the designated lunch room across from the AMIK office COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 33
Dining and Lunch Room Hand Washing Stations 34 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
Food Service We also made a number of changes to our food service routines in order to reduce the chances of contamination: • Shared portions and dispensers have been replaced with single portions (i.e., ice cream, soup, milk, juice) • Fresh fruit and salads are individually packaged • Condiments are available in individual packages • Plastic cutlery is available in individual packages • Make-your-own sandwich and salad stations have been discontinued • The water filtration machine is temporarily turned off. Bottled water is available • Salt and pepper shakers have been removed from the tables • The coffee dispenser remains in operation. Please sanitize before and after every use COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols and Guidebook 35
Housekeeping Extra emphasis on our janitorial and housekeeping practices will help further prevent the spread of the virus. A number of specific measures have been taken to further improve these protocols: • All staff will have daily temperature checks prior to the start of their shift. • Dedicated cleaners have been hired to sanitize common areas and the camp site. • We have investigated the best chemical for use in the kitchen, concluding that D-10 – used on cafeteria tables and chairs – is food-safe, and may be sprayed and wiped on surfaces during meal periods. • Room and site cleaning staff use Oxiver – a better virus killer, to be used on all heavy contact surfaces. • Food delivery drivers no longer bring the food order to the kitchen, following site-wide delivery protocols. Kitchen staff will bring all food directly from the loading bay. • During crew change-over, staff will completely sanitize all rooms and change linens following enhanced laundry protocols. Use of the Gym •T he number of people permitted in the gym is limited to the number of people that can maintain physical distancing of at least two metres. • All team games are prohibited. • Sanitize equipment and mats before and after each use. 36 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.

COVID-19 Risk Exposure and Case Management Protocols at LDI 1. Individuals with COVID-19 symptoms - a negative PCR test is required to report to work If you begin to experience a COVID-19 symptom while at LDI, stay in your room and contact the LDI Health Centre at (807) 448-2052. You will be given a diagnostic COVID-19 test and isolate to await test results: • Vaccinated individuals may isolate on site • Unvaccinated individuals will be safely sent off site to isolate If you receive a COVID-19 negative test result: • Unvaccinated individuals may report to work 48 hours after symptoms subside If you receive a COVID-19 POSITIVE test result: You must self-isolate off site for at least 10 – 14 days, as directed by TBDHU. You may report back to work after your self- isolation period, assuming no lingering symptoms. 2. Close Contact of COVID-19 Positive Person • Vaccinated individuals may report to work, but must self-monitor and participate in repeat PCR & antigen testing while on site • Unvaccinated individuals must self-isolate for 14 days and cannot report to work • During this self-isolation period, team members will immediately go on unpaid, job protected leave. They will be eligible to apply for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit during their self-isolation period • If an unvaccinated individual is notified of close contact while at site, they will be safely transported off site to self- isolate. If they are unable to safely self-isolate at home, Impala Canada will pay for a hotel room in Thunder Bay only until a test result is received. A test result is typically received in 24 – 48 hours. 3. Close Contact of a person with COVID-19 symptoms • Unvaccinated individuals must complete repeat antigen testing in order to report to work. 4. International Travel • Vaccinated individuals who travel internationally must complete an antigen test upon arrival and mid-way through rotation. We are doing this out of an abundance of caution given the presence of global variants of concern. • Unvaccinated individuals must self-isolate for 14 days and cannot report to work. If this impacts their work rotation, they will be placed on unpaid, job protected leave. 5. Mandatory Quarantine or Public Health Order • Any individual under mandatory quarantine because of recent travel or subject to a public health order from any public health authority will be placed on unpaid, job protected leave. Individuals will be eligible to apply for to apply for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit. Under recent changes to the Ontario Employment Standards Act, any employee on unpaid, infectious disease emergency leave will receive up to $200 a day for up to three days. 38 Stay home or in your room if you are sick. Seek medical attention.
