4 CASE STUDIES Understanding Construcon
Our History with MSD ADCO has been delivering successful projects in partnership with MSD since 1996. Phase 1: Ballydine, Clonmel, 1996–2000 Our knowledge and experience of MSD and the Ballydine site started in 1996 when our CEO, Michael Foran, worked directly on the BCEP expansion project alongside MSD staff including Charlie Carleton, Tom Leacy, Michael Leonard of Prochem and Ger Bythell of ARUP. ADCO Contracting also completed a civil work project onsite at MSD Ballydine for Con Sheehan and Donal Murphy of Jacobs back in 2014. Phase 2: Swords, Co. Dublin, 2014-2017 Working in partnership with PM Group, ADCO Contracting provided framework agreement construction and contracting services based out of the Swords facility in Co. Dublin. The majority of our team have been based out of Swords at one time or another. Over the years our work has included both external and internal works. Internal works including cleanroom upgrade with extensive and meticulous planning, shutdown and upgrade works without minimising production. ADCO Contracting also completed external works including car parks, drainage works, maintenance to water mains and the installation of petrol interceptors. Decontaminaon Works, 2016 Value: €1m The MSD Swords plant ceased production of API product in 2016 and the plant needed to be decontaminated and made safe as MSD intended to sell the site. PM Group appointed ADCO to assist with full decontamination scope of HVAC system and cleanroom suites. Much of this work was completed by our teams while wearing versa flow suits to protect them from risk of exposure to residual API product. Project: Clean to Shell Project, 2017 Value: €2m MSD decided to opt out of selling the facility and instead repurpose and expand it into a new production facility to produce a new immunotherapy cancer drug Keytruda. ADCO completed the full clean to shell scope including all asset identification & destruction. ADCO managed all waste management for this project: removal of over 126k Tons of demolition and construction waste, 184 Tons of Hazardous material & achieved rebates on 1,873 Tons of recyclable metals. Phase 3: Swords, Co. Dublin, 2018–2020 Value: €12m MSD expands with the development of a multi-billion euro facility at Swords. In partnership with PM Group & Jacobs Joint Venture, ADCO Contracting completed the internal finishes scope for the Central Utilities Building, MS&T Labs & Bulk Drug Substance Building. The project reached over 4,000,000 million man-hours onsite with zero LTIs. This is the largest facility of it’s constructed in such a short time frame with an exemplary safety record.
