Who do I listen to?! When can I go back to work? Leaders, so far, are... not sure (and not clear) - Federal government is pushing to open quicker than some states; states quicker than some cities – the truth: no one knows for sure and there is a power struggle happening - Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio have disagreed on the approach to re-opening NYC schools - Much of it comes down to mass testing capabilities, antibodies testing, and the approval of a vaccine
When in doubt, let’s trust numbers & science: Trends? 3 - As discussed in the last 2 info sessions, Italy has been 10 days ahead of the US in terms of the shape of its ‘daily new cases’ chart – that has 2 not changed - Italy’s curve tells us that while we may continue 1 to tick down, the ‘come down’ is not as quick as the ride up - Cases are about half of where they were 10-14 days ago, meaning the US could still be seeing ~12k new cases per day 2 weeks from now 3 So what is Italy doing 4 next? 2 - Slowly easing restrictions, one step at a time 1 - Death tolls lag ‘new cases’ - Life is certainly not going to be back to normal 10 days from now in Italy or the US … - Vaccines: 70 already in trials; 3 with human testing – still likely months away
NY State: What is happening? Are we making progress? At ‘the apex’, we hope Teamwork - NY has started shipping ventilators and other - All of us know team members on the front lines, in supplies to states that need it most – we seem to be our hospitals, attempting to fight through this in a much better place than we were 10 days ago and the ‘worst case’ scenarios luckily did not happen - Data is starting to show a decrease in number of total hospitalizations, some much needed good - Gov. Cuomo continues to push for a unified tri-state, news for our health care workers in New Yorkers LI, Westchester approach to reopening our economy
