Commissioner Technology Focus Group (CTFG) Status Report May 19, 2021 As always, please share this widely with your Commissioners. Updated Distribution List Please continue to send updates to the distribution list for this periodic status report to: mfweber112@comcast.net. Advancement Reports – Cub Scout Adventures Added It was reported as new last month that in my.scouting, in the Reports tab of the Roster tool, four new summary advancement reports display. Now you can also access a summary advancement report for CUB SCOUT ADVENTURES. Note that due to limits of system resources, all these new advancement reports are only for unit, district and council reporting. 2021 Unit JTE Worksheets Working together with the JTE Team, the Commissioner Technology Team is pleased to announce that the 2021 UNIT Journey to Excellence Scorecards (PDF files) and Tracking Workbooks (Excel files) are now available on the JTE webpage: https://www.scouting.org/awards/journey‐to‐excellence . Organizational Security Manager is now Position Manager If you are a Key 3 or have access to Organizational Security Manager, you may have noticed that it has been replaced by Position Manger. To access Position Manager, you would first need to select Organization Manager and then select Position Manger on the left side. See examples below.
Position Manager provides the ability to change positions for registered adults, except the COR or IH positions. Those that are registered as the COR, or COR designee, will be able to change a person’s position within a unit. This applies to both the Registered and Functional roles. Note that the name revision will not allow someone to violate minimum leadership requirements, e.g., no unit leader position, no committee chair position, etc. New Merit Badge Report A new feature available is the ability to print out a merit badge report. This report can be found in my.scouting in the Reports tab of the Roster tool. The list can be exported to a CSV file and sorted for district or troop.
My.Scouting Applications Index Commissioner Tools and the other my.scouting applications have grown over the past few years and are continually being updated with new features and access to important/useful information. Sometimes you need a scorecard to keep track of all that is happening. With that in mind, three new ‘scorecards’, or better phrased – an Application Index – has been developed to help our commissioners find the exact tool or report they need. Further, this index has been broken down to three separate ones – one for Unit Commissioners, one for Administrative Commissioners, and one for Roundtable Commissioners. One last feature of the new Index is that those highlighted in bold are tools and reports that are most important for new commissioners and even for those experienced commissioners who want to only focus on the simple and most important roles for a commissioner, for consistent and meaningful Unit Service. The Index is available at the end of this Technology report and will also be available on the Commissioner Webpage under the Technology page and eventually be added to our training modules. If you have any comments for additions, revisions, or suggestions for improvements, please let us know (send emails to mfweber112@comcast.net). Hails and Farewell It is a pleasure to announce a new member to the team, Justin Sprague. Justin is from the Historical Occoneechee Council in Raleigh, NC with expertise in application development and plans to help us out with some of the my.scouting applications. There are several members that are leaving the team, each of whom have made significant contributions over the years since this Technology Team was formed some seven years ago. Darlene Sprague, from Niagara Falls, NY has kept many of the communications and all the website details current and looking very ‘professional’. Garry Lewis from Stafford, VA was a key member helping to provide early vision and requirements for the group and focused on Information Management. Bob Hoffmeyer you may remember as the first “voice” of the original Commissioner Tools training videos who also helped to test and debug many of the Commissioner Tools features and was a big help to ensuring quality control. The final member that will be leaving the group is Rick Hillenbrand, the Technology Team’s Chair since the group was initiated in 2014, and who has formed and led this group for the entire time. Rick will leave a legacy of enabling commissioners to conveniently service their units, administrative commissioners to easily know and report on how their teams are doing, including where help is needed, and has tirelessly worked to generate ideas for updates (major and minor ones), resolve fixes, train commissioners, address countless email requests, communicate in multiple mediums anything that was needed, and personally served as a ‘user’ to test any new change that came down the pike. Rick has made many friends and has many followers along the way and will be sorely missed. We all need to thank Rick for his devotion to Scouting and to Commissioner Tools in particular. We all wish him all the best.
Replacing Rick will be Michael Weber. Mike has over 40 years in Scouting, is an Eagle scout, has been in commissioner service for over 16 years, was most recently the Central Region Commissioner, is retired from General Motors as an engineer in Product Development, is married, has three eagle scout sons, and he lives in Grand Blanc, MI. Please welcome Mike to the Technology Team. He can be reached by email at mfweber112@comcast.net.
