Headquartered in Jersey in the Channel Islands, Durrell focuses on the most threatened species in the most threatened places. JOB P U R P OS E Lead the global development, implementation and management of Durrell’s mission through its Field Programmes with the primary goal of H EA D OF F I EL D enabling the delivery of Durrell’s headline conservation goals set out in the P ROG RA M M ES organisation’s 2017-2025 ‘Rewild our World’ Conservation Strategy. REPOR TS TO Chief Executive Officer The Head of Field Programmes acts as an ambassador, fundraiser and communicator for the whole organisation representing it to partners and HOURS relevant international bodies on the delivery of cutting-edge conservation. 35 Hours Per Week The Head of Field Programmes will be an active member of the Senior LOCATION Management Team of Durrell, contributing their technical and practical Negotiable experience, while supporting the overall management of the organisation.
PR I N CI PAL AC C O U N TAB IL ITIE S LEAD DURRELL’S FIELD PR OGRAMMES • Lead delivery of Durrell’s conservation strategy within the organisation’s Rewilding Sites and Field Programme regions. • Develop strategic partnerships with conservation organisations to further the delivery of our mission and strategy. • Develop partnership conservation projects that help Durrell to meet its strategic objectives and further our mission. • Provide strategic guidance and line management to Durrell’s Field Programme Teams. • Provide operational and financial oversight of the field programmes within Durrell. FUNDR AISING FOR CONSERVATION • Lead development of fundraising for conservation delivery in the field – coordinated with Fundraising Team. • Support the development and implementation of the Trust’s Fundraising Strategy. • With the Fundraising Team build Durrell’s fundraising capacity and effectiveness to support the delivery of Durrell’s field programmes. • Support the development of Durrell’s fundraising activities within the UK, Europe and USA, in line with the Fundraising Strategy. REPRESENTING THE TRUST • Act as a spokesperson for the Trust on matters relating to the conservation work carried out. • Represent the Trust as needed within media and to partners and donors • Represent the Trust at international meetings and bodies, such as IUCN, EAZA and BIAZA.
D I ME N S I O N S STAFF: DIREC T LINE MANAGEMENT OF SIX POSITIONS: • Programme Coordinator • Conservation Planning Coordinator • Madagascar Programme Director • Islands Restoration Manager • Conservation Fundraiser (Full-time) • Conservation Fundraiser (Part-time) • The role has overall responsibility for an annual conservation budget of approximately £1.5m and 70 staff. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL • Minimum MSc in a biological or planning field. • Five years of financial/project management experience within an international organisation or multinational company; • Breadth of vision to be able to develop, build upon or support the strategic direction of Durrell through the successful application of innovative and imaginative solutions to problems; • Experience of work under field conditions; • Excellent organisational, communication and computer skills; • Good working knowledge of conservation work in developing countries.
