CCD Guide 2021 Your Window Into The Universe A project of „Astronomischer Arbeitskreis Salzkammergut, Sternwarte Gahberg“, Austria
The CCD Guide in a nutshell Each year since 1997, our astronomy club („Astro- nomischer Arbeitskreis Salzkammergut“, AAS) pro- duces a new release of a DVD with the best astrono- my images taken by the active members of the „CCD team“. You will also find the necessary software to support newcomers as well as experienced astropho- tographers. Care for three examples? Gerald Rhemann, Comet C/2013 X1 bei NGC 7239 Rolf Geissinger, NGC 2264 Wolfgang Promper, NGC 253
What can the CCD Guide do for you? Besides all the images, the DVD contains a soft- ware that allows to retrieve, filter and categorize those pictures. You are unsure, whether you should search for „M45“ or „Plejades“? No problem, the software is aware of such synonyms. What else can it do? Here are some of the features: • Look at object data, image and thumbnails simultaneousely • Access more than 4.500 images contributed by more than 50 photographers • Access a comprehensive deep sky object data base and find all data relevant for any object • System requirements are minimal: the CCD Guide will run without any software installation on most Windows systems. You will not need Internet access. • Simple retrieval of objects • Image filtering according to different criteria like coordinates, object type, object size, con- stellation, catalog, photographer, telescope or date. • Create a slide show from selected images • Enter your own images (create a personal image archive) • Observation planning for astrophotographers including calculation of the ideal observation window considering object height, sun, moon and local horizon • Automatic annotation of astrophotos with object names from the CCD Guide data base All features are explained in detail in the compre- hensive user guide.
Who is providing the images? More than 50 authors are contributing to the data base, some of them renown internationally. This guarantees long exposure images, professionally processed by real experts. See a few of them: Markus Blauensteiner Gerald Rhemann Rolf Geissinger Wolfgang Ries Thomas Henne Martin Rusterholz Rochus Hess Johannes Schedler Stefan Heutz Harald Strauß Bernhard Hubl Daniel Verschatse † Christoph Kaltseis Sebastian Voltmer Günter Kerschhuber Manfred Wasshuber Fabian Neyer Jens Zippel Wolfgang Promper ... plus 33 more Are object names unique? More than 20 object catalogues have been integrated into the system. When entering data, care has been taken so that each object can be accessed under all its identifiers (Example: M45 = Plejades = Melotte 22 etc). Therefore it is possible to search for an object using an arbitrary name. How does it look like on your PC? The image browser plays a central role. All features can be accessed from here.
Where can I get this DVD? We are present on many events, where you can buy it directly. Or you visit this website: www.ccdguide.com Price: EUR 29,-- plus shipping. All the work that club members have invested had been done voluntarily. More than 1000 hours ran into the production of this DVD. The charge for it will cover production cost plus running projects of the AAS. The astronomy club behind Our club, the „Astronomischer Arbeitskreis Salz- kammergut“, or „AAS“, has been founded in 1980. In 1987, a club observatory was opened. It has been expanded ever since and can be used by club members or guests. With 400+ members, the AAS is one of the largest astronomy clubs in the German-speaking region. A club magazine keeps all the members informed. Each year in Spring an astrophotography workshop attracts lots of visitors. Here experts present their experience and give tipps and how-to‘s. The club‘s observatory (Gahberg, Weyregg, Austria) Who are the „masterminds“? Bernhard Hubl Rolf Löhr Reinh. Rausch Harald Strauß plus H. Bachleitner, H. Bornemann, M. Blauen- steiner, W. Leitner, H. Walter, ...
What else is important? One more reason to buy the DVD Not only the photographers have contributed to the DVD. Putting together the software collection, deve- loping the image browser and many more things to do - all this was the result of a very time-consuming collaboration of many motivated members of the AAS. If you buy the DVD, you will also support the philoso- phy of an astronomer‘s club and you will enable the union to contribute to the idea of „astronomy public relations“ also in the future. This scope will become increasingly important.
