The Sire and Dam The sire: BURGUNDY (NZ) The dam: LA VIENNE (NZ) LA VIENNE, by NZ Champion Sire THORN PARK, won three races in her short 11 start race career. Trained by renowned NZ trainer Roger James, LA VIENNE won her maiden at her fourth start and won her second and third races over 2000m and 2100m shortly aXer. Placings at metropolitan level at Wellington and Ellerslie followed, before her best race performance in the Group 3 Hawke’s Bay Gold Cup (2200m) when beaten by a short head. She usually raced midfield, showed a good turn of foot, and fought hard at the finish on both Good and wet tracks. She re`red due to injury just as she BURGUNDY is impeccably bred, being by the was reaching her peak performance level, with a Champion Australian Stallion (2013/14) REDOUTE’S respectable performance ra`ng of 88. LA VIENNE is a sibling to seven other runners (all winners) from the good producer TRIO, including GRAND ECHEZEAUX is by Australia’s leading SALE OF CENTURY (G1 STC Rosehill Guineas, 2nd G1 Broodmare Sire ZABEEL. She is a three-‐quarter VATC Caulfield Guineas). mul`ple Group winner sister to ROMANEE CONTI, the dam of Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner LA VIENNE’s third dam is COURT, another good ETHEREAL. Pedigree insights Relevant pedigree crosses and nicks Mares by NUREYEV and his sons and grandsons (like THORN PARK), have produced well when mated to REDOUTE’S CHOICE, BURGUNDY’s sire. Redoute’s Choice has sired 39 runners out of mares from the NUREYEV sire line. Four are stakes-‐winners (10.4% of stakes-‐winners), including LANKAN RUPEE (G1 ATC TJ Smith S., G1 VRC Newmarket H., G1 VRC Ligh`ng S., G1 MRC Oakleigh P., G1 MVRC Manikato S.), KING'S ROSE (G1 NZ One Thousand Guineas), and FLORENTINA (G3 Gold Coast Guineas). THORN PARK’s sire SPINNING WORLD, is out of IMPERFECT CIRCLE. She is the second dam of Group 3 winner GLOBAL BALANCE (G3 Auraria S.) who was by REDOUTE’S CHOICE. So this nick is notable. THORN PARK’s second dam is CHRISTMAS SPIRIT. She is also the second dam of Group 3 winner WORLD PEACE (G3 Blue Diamond Preview) who was by DANEHILL (BURGUNDY’s grandsire). Again, another notable nick. The G1 Goldmine Age & Distance ApQtude, and Common Similarity Index Thanks to G1 Goldmine, the below graph shows the age and distance range of all stakes-‐winners that are bred on a similar pedigree papern as this horse. The larger the red circle, the more stakes winners in that category. Stakes horses bred on a similar pa2ern are predominantly milers. Stakes-‐winners with the closest pedigree papern to this horse are shown below. The Common Similarity Index (CSI) gives an indica`on on the pedigree similarity to this horse. G1 Goldmine class this horse’s pedigree as 20/20. A 20/20 ma1ng occurs when a paBern has two or more Stakes Winners with CSI values above 20. This indicates that this pedigree is excep1onal as there are at least two superior horses with a very similar paBern.
