Welcome to our very special race meeting, and welcome back to those pioneers who have competed with us before. Our meeting is special and unique: we are amateur enthusiasts who love our motor sport, and want to share that with as many old and new friends as possible, respecting and racing our old machines for pure enjoyment in the company of the like-minded. We would like you to join us. We have successfully created a path to inexpensive motor sport: organizers are not paid, only our officials’ expenses are covered, we consider all of us are Participants in (not customers of) our sport, and we believe we all enjoy this so much that we each and all have shares in our motor sport—we each and all desire to promote this wonderful race meeting, through responsible individual and group effort. Our 2016, 2017, and 2018 Wakefield Park successes suggest that the system works. Like those before you, please work responsibly to “sell” OUR race meeting to encourage as many paying customers as previous years. This is the best way towards our enjoyable inexpensive racing. You can: 1. Copy and display our poster in your area—as often as you like 2. Write our race meeting into your diary 3. Enter our race meeting/ book your accommodation 4. Publicize the meeting to your friends, your relatives, your neighbours, your clubs, your workplace (if you no longer work, that means you have more time to work on publicity!) 5. Publicize the meeting via radio, TV, local newspapers, and any other form of communication that occurs to you. YOUR WORK is repaid by our cheaper entry fees, created by more spectators/ more bums on seats. 6. We have a particular interest in more spectator coming from big nearby centres—Goulburn, Canberra, Yass, South Coast, Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo, all of Sydney. Please use your contacts to open up these areas for us—we all have shares in our business. 7. Of course we would like more from further afield. A great example has been set by people, like the Jones’s living east of Townsville ( “ the last 1000 miles are pretty easy”) 8. In return we will titillate, entertain, and stimulate you and yours in unusual way Have you visited Hartley Vale, one of Australia’s defunct race circuits?
SPECIAL LUNCHTIME FEATURE RACE FOR HAND CHANGE SOLOS This event for these exciting machines and riders will be added to the All Historic Wakefield Park 2019 program Cars line up for the All Holden-Engined race 2018.
Holden race engines are consistently voted the best sounding cars on the track. This lunch time feature race was such a success that it will be repeated in 2019 All Historic Wakefield Park is our last opportunity to enjoy motorsport that specifically caters for our old machines. It is vitally important that we support this event! John Medley One of our younger historic competitors is making a name for himself overseas Brad Gorrie rode with his father Doug in the rain at All Historic Wakefield Park in 2016 Recently written up in Motorcycling Australia Newsletter Brad is being recognised as a very talented passenger enjoying the thrills of modern sidecar racing in the IDM German Sidecar Championship and looking forward to the 2019 British Sidecar Championship.Brad’s motto “Be yourself and chase your dreams” is certainly taking to some of the best tracks in the world. We wish Brad the best of luck for the European season and hope to see him back on the side of Doug’s BSA at Wakefield Park soon. Finally recognition for what we already knew, Ken Lucas’s support for motorsport has been remarkable. Ken received the Order of Australia Medal for his services to Motor Sport just before his 88th birthday in February this year.
Ken was awarded motorcyclist in the best spirit of Historic racing at 2016 All Historic Wakefield Park when he turned up with a truck full of Historic race bikes for the spectators to enjoy. A final word from the Wakefield Park Team We’re gearing up here at Wakefield Park Raceway for what is going to be the biggest, most spectacular year we have ever seen as our beloved track turns 25 years old. One of our favourite and most memorable events The All Historic Meeting returns this year on Father’s Day weekend and we can’t wait! This year our friends at the Goulburn Workers Club have generously sponsored The All Historic meeting event which in return helps us to promote and add some tremendous entertainment throughout the day and evening. On the Friday evening Goulburn Workers Club will be hosting a meeting place for all our competitors, their families and spectators to join us all for a welcome drink. This will provide a great atmosphere and for all of our racing family to enjoy each other’s company. The catering for Saturday afternoons Entrées / Trophy Presentation and Music at the track will be much improved this year; This get together runs from 5 till 6.30 to give people enough time to get to dinner venues in the city It’s a great way to help support the people who are supporting your race event. So everyone is welcome to attend, and we encourage you to bring along some good old yarns about your racing days to share. Help support the people who are supporting your event! For those who are thinking of entering we encourage you to do so as soon as entries open. Entries can be done via our website www.wakefieldpark.com.au or phone our friendly staff on 02 4822 2811. We look forward to seeing you all at the track in what is to be some of the best historic racing this track has ever seen! Regards, Dean Chapman If you have received this newsletter by snail mail but have moved into the 21st century and have an email address, please email Ruth at Wakefield to let her know so we can keep you up to date for this event for your 20thcentury machines. admin@wakefieldpark.com.au
