PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Welcome all to our last home game at Bridgehaugh and the eighth fixture of the FOSROC Super6 competition. Today we extend a warm welcome to Bridgehaugh to all visitors, sponsors, former players, and members, along with a special welcome to our opponents from Edinburgh, Watsonians. We are moving to the real hard edge of the competition with teams trying to consolidate their position in the league table of the FOSROC Super6 competition - with an eye on the playoffs. Although Watsonians lost 24-7 last Friday evening to the Southern Knights, they did well to hang in and prevent the Southern Knights from achieving a bonus point. County once again provided us with another nail biter of a game and won the last home fixture 27-24 beating Boroughmuir Bears in the dying minutes of the match. In round two of the FOSROC Super6 both sides served up a nerve-jangling affair with Watsonains winning 10-7 on a wet and dull Friday evening at Myreside. Both sides seem to like to play ambitious rugby, however, at the same time, this game was a hard-fought and intensely physical affair and there didn’t seem to be much between the two sides and Stirling seemed to put Watsonians under pressure but didn’t really capitilise on their mistakes. Currently Watsonians sit in third place, on the league table, and County are close behind in forth place. This is an attritional league and the coaches recognise they need to keep their squads intact and have strength in depth as every game is that tight. As there is not much to choose between the two sides, the pressure on both teams to get a win and consolidate their positions on the league table for the looming play offs is immense, so hopefully, this will produce another cracker of a match. Like all clubs, we remain indebted to our sponsors and advertisers. Without whose valuable regular support, we would have difficulty running an all-inclusive rugby club for the benefit and enjoyment of all players and members of our community, no matter their ability, age, or background. I would like to offer a special word of thanks to all our sponsors, particularly our main sponsor, Wolfcraig. Wolfcraig is a new distillery that is being built at Craigforth in Stirling next year. The Wolfcraig whiskies will be original creations from two heavyweights in the Scottish whisky industry and will use the rich natural resources of the Stirling area. Wolfcraig is keen to become an active and positive part of the local community and will be taking steps to support its development. Our thanks also go to shirt sponsors Douglas Park Stirling, Johnston and Carmichael, Belhaven, and Stirling Crematorium for the warm-up tops. Remember if you would like to purchase any Stirling County rugby clothing, our shop is now online where you can access the shop by going onto the new club website. To all our visitors, members, and supporters, please enjoy the rugby, enjoy your day, and keep on coming back to Bridgehaugh. Today’s game is being streamed live on FREESport. Our next FOSROC Super6 fixture is on Saturday 2nd October away against Heriots Rugby, at Goldenacre, with a 3.00pm kick-off. John Gibson President, Stirling County R.F.C. 2021 – 2022
COACHES’ VIEW Round 8 Preview It was great to see Bridgehaugh buzzing last weekend and we will be looking for more of the same this weekend. The Legends Lunch was a great success, and it was brilliant to see players from different generations connecting in the clubhouse post match. Whilst we played some fantastic rugby last weekend, scoring a couple of cracking tries in open play and a couple from a dominant maul, we were a bit disappointed by our overall performance. There is more to come from this group, and we will be looking to bring that out this weekend. However, winning matters and if we can back it up, it will put us in a good position going into our final 2 matches of the regular season. Watsonians will provide a different test to Boroughmuir. They play with a lot of structure and tactically, play the game in the right areas with good kick options. They’ve hit a bit of a slump in form losing 3 of their last 4 matches so I am sure they will be targeting this match to get back to their winning ways as they push to make the top 2. Today’s match will also be broadcast live on Freesports. Having two matches per week broadcast live has been brilliant for the competition and has really showcased how good a product the FOSROC Super6 is. Almost every game has gone down to the wire and, although I would prefer us to win our matches a little more comfortably, I am sure for the neutral it has been really entertaining to watch. This is our final home match of the regular season. The boys have loved playing in front of a growing Bridgehaugh support and we look forward to putting in another big performance at home today.
