Tax Preparation Assistance AARP Tax Preparation Assistance Due to COVID-19, AARP is not providing in-person tax assistance this year. Instead, it is following a “No Contact” model for seniors who have email, internet access, a printer, a scanner, and the ability to use “Google Meet“ to video conference online with a tax counselor. AARP membership is not required. If you meet these requirements, email your name, email address and phone number to: CA4D14@aarpfoundation.org. AARP will email you a packet of instructions and forms. The Simi Valley Council On Aging Honors Edward Mazeika 2020 Wayne Templeton Volunteer of the Year Ed Mazeika has selflessly given his time and talents for over ten years at the Simi Valley Senior Center in areas that promote enhanced quality of life for many seniors. He has served on the Council On Aging (COA) Executive Board, assisted with fundraising events, helped patrons of the Rendezvous Café and has continued to deliver meals to home bound seniors throughout the pandemic. His caring, helpful, upbeat and happy presence brings joy to seniors’ lives and he is truly a treasured member of the Senior Center family. Virtual Chair Yoga Are you looking for a way to unwind or reduce tension in your life? Take some time for you! The Simi Valley Senior Center will offer an online Chair Yoga class via Zoom. Join experienced instructor Smita Dandekar from the comfort of your own home. The next eight-week class series will meet on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., February 17 to April 7, 2021. Each weekly class will focus on a different, specific goal. It is a great activity for people in wheelchairs too! Participants must have “Show Video” and Sound so that the instructor can view and hear the student via Zoom meeting. The classes are free, but registration is required. Ventura County Area Agency on Aging Eat Smart, Live Strong Enjoy fun, lively activities with others during this four-week online course designed for people 60 and older. Participants will discuss easy ways to make smart food choices and exercise more. Classes are taught by a registered dietitian and are free to participants. Class Dates 2/4 2/11 2/18 2/25 Classes held weekly from 11 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Classes are stand alone, but participants are encouraged to join the full four-weeks. Ventura County Area Agency on Aging CAREGIVER RESOURCES Are you helping to support a loved one who is 60 or older? Are you a grandparent caring for a grandchild? Ventura County's Family Caregiver Resource Centers (FCRC) provide assessment and case management for family caregivers in Ventura County. Programs offer caregivers training, support groups, home adaptations and safety devices, caregiver resource libraries and computer centers, information and assistance, public information, and community education. FCRCs can also help caregivers with in-home respite and out-of-home respite (day care) for caregivers at risk of caregiver burnout.
