BOARD HIGHLIGHTS October 18th, 2021 Motions Passed by the Board e Board approved the contract with Detection Canines, Meeting Date: Monday, October 18, 2021, 5p.m. LLC for detection services for the 2021-22 school year. e Location: Administration Building services include locating illicit drugs, including prescription Next Meeting: Monday, November 1, 2021, 5p.m. drugs, alcohol, and handgun detection. For more information about the requirements of running for an open board member seat and filing with the county election board, interested parties may contact the Oklahoma County Election Board. e Board also approved an agreement with Talk Tools to present a webinar to District Speech Pathologists during the District professional development day on January 3. e presentation will focus on treating students diagnosed with Apraxia of Speech and other motor-related speech disorders. Comments by Board Members & Public Judy Mullen Hopper thanked the many foundation volunteers who work behind the scenes with Jennifer Seal, who have worked hard to increase the number of donors. Steve Burger gave a shout-out to Cory Boggs for his development of the Putnam. He also thanked Tracy Rogers, the Principal of Windsor Hills, for sharing the students through a video message and the Food Services Team's dedication to serving meals, especially during the COVID closure. Gail LoPresto thanked Dwane Drake and his team of managers for their work serving students. She also expressed how proud she is of Cory Boggs. She also thanked Mrs. Rogers for her attendance and showcasing her students. Charity Avery also thanked Mr. Drake for his presentation and said her daughter talks about the food at school, and she knows firsthand how hard they work to make it good for kids. She also gave a shout-out to Cory. Jay Sherrill gave a shout-out to the in-person parent-teacher conference and the warm greeting from all the people in the building. Great job to Capps Principal Burnett for creating such a warm and welcoming environment.
BOARD HIGHLIGHTS October 18th, 2021 Superintendents Report DR. FRED RHODES We are Only Half Way rough the Month and We Have So Much Good News is is the month of awards for our outstanding teachers! Chelsie Titsworth, of Central Elementary received $2500 from Marathon Oil’s Unconventional inking Teaching Grant. She will use the grant to purchase decodable readers to help close reading gaps and purchase more multi-cultural literature that is more reflective of students in her class. She will also purchase professional development books to continue learning about the science of reading and how the brain learns to read. Congratulations to Linnea Mason of Northridge Elementary for her grant from the Oklahoma Educators Credit Union for $356 to purchase supplies to create STEM bins. Ms. Christine Pascual Domingo of Mayfield Middle Schools also secured an award of $250 to create a bilingual and multicultural library. Previously, the OECU only awarded grants once a year, but now through their reformatted process, educators can apply monthly. KOCO’s September Teacher of the Month recognized 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Guffin of Central Elementary. She is in her third year at Central and serves as Team Leader. She received a $1000 check from Quail Creek Bank and Donors Choose. Congratulations to the PC North Varsity Choir and Una Voce students, under the direction of Stephanie Keegan-Moring, who sang with the Canterbury Choral Society and the OKC Philharmonic at the OKC Civic Center on Sunday, October 10th. ey were one of two high school choir programs in the state to be invited and the students were thrilled for the opportunity. You may have seen them around the district, charging stations that secure classroom sets of iPads. What do these have to do with Putnam City Public Schools? Our own, Cory Boggs, Executive Director of Information Technology, developed these to charge multiple iPads at once. is revolutionary idea caught international attention and now LocknCharge, a company out of Australia, has trademarked Mr. Boggs’ design as the “Putnam” and is selling it to schools globally. On your next visit to Chick-fil-A, be sure to look for the Putnam and soon Chili's will also be using them.
