What about ranking ?
« Rankings do not reflect reality, but they shape it » What about ranking ? Jordi Correl, International Symposium on University Rankings and Quality Assurance 2012
17'000 universities 5'000 research universities 500 classified universities Best 200 Always 6-7 Swiss universities, Including UNIL 23
Chose your favorite… In 2003, the Chinese government asks University of Jiao Tong de Shanghai to establish a classification of world universities In 2005, the Times Higher Education Supplement develops parallel system with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) In 2007, le Higher Education &Accreditation Council of Taiwan, launches its own classification based on scientific papers from the Web of Science in 2004, the Centre for Science and Technology Studies of the Leiden University launches a classification based on bibliometric indicators. Classification is adjusted according to institutions’ sizes, number of articles, and citations per articles, etc. Germany (DAAD) supports efforts by CHE for a discipline-based classification in order to help students to chose universities.
Mean number of citations per article: 5 first ranked universities in Europe
