SLEEP IN AOTEAROA 2018 ABSTRACT SUBMISSION Abstracts are due 13th April 2018 and should follow the format below. Max word count 300 • Title, Authors, Affiliations • Background and Aims • Methods, Results, Conclusions • Funding and financial interests Abstracts may be submitted on original research, clinical audit and review, or case studies. Abstracts will undergo peer review and you will be advised the success or otherwise of your application. If you are applying for the Student travel award or New Investigator Award please mark this in your email. Please email abstracts to: swrc@massey.ac.nz
SLEEP IN AOTEAROA 2018 STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS Travel Awards are intended to support and further the career development of students who are actively pursuing an academic degree in the field of sleep. Travel Awards will be based on scientific merit of an abstract submitted for presentation at Sleep in Aotearoa. All eligible applicants must be a member of the Australasian Sleep Association or Australasian Sleep Technologists Association. The original work to be presented will have been carried out by the applicant, during the applicant’s research training (up to and including PhD studies or equivalent, and up to two years after granting of the degree or certificate). Recipients must be the first AND presenting author of an abstract submitted for Sleep in Aotearoa, must register and attend the meeting. Awards will be distributed when the recipients submit their programme evaluation at the conclusion of the conference. The availability of other travel funding, apart from departmental funding, should be disclosed. To apply for the Travel Award, please follow the instructions below: • Indicate your interest in applying for the Sleep in Aotearoa Student Travel Award by selecting “apply” on the award submission step when you submit your abstract for Sleep in Aotearoa. • Provide your ASA or ASTA membership ID number. (note: membership in the ASA or ASTA is required to be considered for an award) • Complete and submit the Application form. • Provide a signed copy of the Certification by Supervisor/Head of Department form (Available on the ASA NZ branch website) • Submit your abstract at the same time as the closing date for all Sleep in Aotearoa conference (13th April 2018) Applicants will be assessed by the Conference Committee and then forwarded to the ASA NZ branch Committee for final approval. The amount of the grant will be reimbursement of airfare/registration up to a maximum of $300. Three travel awards are available in 2018. Please complete the application form (see attached) and return it by the Abstract closing date (13th April) to: swrc@massey.ac.nz
SLEEP IN AOTEAROA 2018 NEW INVESTIGATOR AWARDS The New Investigator Award for excellence in the conduct and presentation of research will be made at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the ASA NZ branch (Sleep in Aotearoa). Presentations for consideration for this award will be delivered during the student presentation section. The Award is a free registration to the Australasian Annual Scientific meeting. All eligible applicants must be a member of the Australasian Sleep Association or Australasian Sleep Technologists Association. The original work to be presented will have been carried out by the applicant, during the applicant’s research training (up to and including PhD studies or equivalent/Advanced Trainee). The age of the applicant will not determine eligibility. The applicant’s eligibility should be verified by their Supervisor or Head of Department. Eligible abstracts will be reviewed by the ASA NZ Branch Committee, and successful applicants will be required to present their abstract as an oral presentation in the New Investigator Award presentation section at the Sleep in Aotearoa meeting. The presentation will be ten minutes followed by five minutes for questions. Presenters will be required to demonstrate: • Excellence in the design, execution, analysis and critical appraisal of their research • Ability to communicate key concepts clearly to an audience who have no specialised knowledge in the field • Competence in answering questions and discussing points raised by the audience The oral presentations will be judged by the ASA NZ branch committee and other members of ASA NZ branch. The judging will be based on scientific merit and significance (40%), visual (10%) and oral (20%) presentation and understanding/responding to questions (30%). The New Investigator Award will be presented at the Conference Dinner. Student presenters eligible for this award must be the first AND presenting author of their abstract and must register and attend the meeting. An applicant who submits multiple first author abstracts for the NZ meeting may only select one to be considered for the New Investigator Award per year. To submit your abstract to be considered for the New Investigator Award, please follow the instructions below: • Indicate your interest in being considered for presentation in the New Investigator Session by selecting “apply for New Investigator Award” when you submit your abstract for Sleep in Aotearoa • Submit a NIA application form (see attached) to the Conference Secretariat at swrc@massey.ac.nz, which should be signed by you and your Supervisor/Head of Department
