BAND INSTRUMENT SELECTION NIGHT AUGUST 19 6:00 PM- 8:30 PM HILLCREST MS BAND ROOM OR AUGUST 21 9 AM- 11:30 AM DUNCANVILLE MS BAND ROOM SIGNUP AT TINYURL.COM/BANDSELECT21 Duncanville Instrument Selection Night will take place at two times and different locations. You have the option to sign up for either of these days in certain time slots. These time slots will allow your experience to be more efficient and effective. Please sign up for a slot via the email that will be sent this weekend or students may sign up per your request in the band room beginning next week. At this event, students are encouraged to try every instrument. Specialist for each instrument will be present to test students and help determine on which instrument students will have the highest success rate on. After all instruments are attempted, a meeting will take place between the student, the parent, and the band director to discuss and decide what instrument will be played. Not everyone will get their first choice of instrument as we need to have all instruments covered to make a band. Most people will know what instrument they will be playing when they leave school. Some instruments will have a waiting list and will wait until all students have tried instruments before anyone is placed on the instrument. Information about purchasing/renting instruments will be available. Please make your best effort to attend one of these times! Students who attend these days will have priority on choice of instrument over students who do not attend these events.

FUNDRAISING We try to keep band fees as low as possible for all students to participate in band. But in order for the band to operate at the high level that we are and provide the best opportunity for students, it costs money. So, we will hold two main fundraisers each year. In October, we will be participating in a fundraiser that involves selling a product. In March, we will be participating in a fundraiser that focuses on donations for "Music in Our Schools Month". These two different types of fundraisers at different times of the year provide a diverse way to fundraise us to reach a diverse audience. Students are expected to raise at least $50 for the band. If you would not like to participate in fundraising you can opt to pay a "fair share donation" of $50 that still allows every student to pull their weight without having to fundraise. Most students will be able to raise more than $50 through fundraising for the band program. These extra earnings can help pay for anything on the student's band account like an instrument rental fee through DMS, honor band audition or event through DMS, or band t-shirt. Additional money raised will go to the band as no additional money will be given back as check from the school or going to other DMS school events outside of band. Please wait to send this donation until we announce our first fundraiser! Money raised for the band will go to band expenses like: Sheet music for concerts Did you know? New instruments It costs almost $5,000 for one new tuba. Software subscriptions (ex: CutTime) During last year's spring concert, the Buses for field trips band played almost $1,000 worth of Food and snacks for band events sheet music. Band-wide registration for events If you would like to help with future fundraising ideas or if you would like to be apart of a newly created band parent fundraising committee, please contact Ms. Mason at bmmason@tcss.net. Thank you in advance for supporting the DMS Band!
