                                   Register Online to Pay Student Fees
Pay your class fees, club dues and athletic passes online! It’s easy! Just go to School Cash Online at

                              2021-2022 Course Registration Information

Registration will begin on February 16th during your student’s 30 during 3rd advisory period. Your student will
have daily registration assignments to work on to prepare for registration for next school year. Registration in
Aspen will run from February 16th thru March 7th. Students will access all registration materials on Canvas
in their class pages (Class of 2022, Class of 2023, and Class of 2024). Counselors will hold virtual offices hours
the week of March 1st for quarantined and virtual students. Counselors will be in the West Mall Commons all
lunch periods from March 1 to 5th to answer student questions about registration. Course requests are due in
Aspen by March 7th. Contact your grade level counselor if you have any questions.

                                            Student of the Week
Student of the Week recognition for this week goes to Harrison Kay and Lauren Peters. Congratulations!

                                           Attendance Reminder
Students who are quarantined by the school or who have received a positive test result are marked in Aspen
as virtual learners for the duration of their quarantine. Teachers are required to mark quarantined students
absent for their class attendance. In-person students who stay home for any other reason and choose to
participate virtually will still be counted absent for class whenever they are not physically present in school.

                                                 Prom Update
As we are aware that many students are thinking about purchasing dresses and making other preparations for
the 2021 Prom season, please know that Knox County Schools has placed all 2021 Proms “on hold” for now
due to current social distancing, contact tracing, and large gathering protocols/guidelines. However, please
know that our Prom sponsors and committee are already hard at work planning the POSSIBLE May 1st event
at the Mill and Mine and will have everything ready if we are given “the go ahead” by Knox County officials. As
always, thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this difficult time.

deadline to order the school yearbook is March 1, 2021. No additional yearbooks will be ordered and
available for sale like previous years.

                                                   Art Guild
Do you enjoy painting murals, fun art crafts, or anything to do with art? Come join Art Guild! Meetings are on
Fridays from 3:30-4:30 in Room 334.

                                           FAFSA due March 1st!
Seniors need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid before March 1st. Go to fafsa.gov to
apply. The FAFSA is required for seniors to receive any need-based aid, grants, or federal work-study. It is also
the application for the HOPE Scholarship and must be completed for both the TN and UT Promise programs.
A representative from Pellissippi State will be available at BHS on January 14th and January 26th to meet
virtually with students to help complete FAFSAs. These will be held in the BHS Counseling Office. You can sign-
up for one of these dates below for an appointment.

                                   Senior Committee Senior Gift Drive
The Class of 2021 Senior Committee is working with the Class of 2020 to continue a fundraising joint effort.
Both classes have decided to raise money for the construction of a new awning over the entrance used by our
Special Education students. Since COVD-19 has altered many or our traditional fundraising avenues we are
turning to our community for support. If you would like to help out with this campaign you can make a

                     Tennessee Association Conservation Districts Scholarships
Seniors interested in majoring in Agriculture and encouraged to apply for the Tennessee Association
Conservation Districts scholarships. Six $600 scholarships will be awarded. Applicants must be accepted to a
Tennessee public university. Applications are due to Mrs. Bolinger on or before 2pm Friday, 3/12.

                                  Please Charge Those Chromebooks!
Families please help your students stay prepared for class! Chromebooks should be charged fully each night,
and students need to bring their chargers each day. We do not have devices or charges to loan for day use.

Volunteer Girls and Boys State
Applications for Volunteer Girls State and Boys State are now available in the Counseling Office. Juniors who
are school and community leaders are encouraged to apply. All programs will be held virtually this year. Boys
State is tentatively scheduled for the end of May. Girls State will be held from June 1st to June 4, 2021.
All delegates are typically selected from the top thirty percent of the junior class of Tennessee high schools
and should display the following characteristics:

*High moral character                     *Outstanding leadership qualities

*Scholarship                             *Interest in government

*Community participation                   *Cooperativeness

Students will learn leadership skills and run their own government during the program. The deadline to apply
is Friday, March 12th. See Mrs. Bolinger in the College and Career Center if you have any questions.

                                           Art Classes Next Year
Students interested in taking Photography, Honors Art, & AP Art next year need to apply for these classes. The
deadline for applications is March 3. Digital Application information is available on the flyers hanging
throughout the school. Students can pick up physical applications in room 332 or in the guidance office.
If you have any questions about these courses, please see Mrs. May in room 332.

                                                Dual Enrollment
Are you a current sophomore or junior? Are you interested in learning more about Dual Enrollment?
If so, there will be a Dual Enrollment Informational Meeting offered virtually on Thursday, February 18th from
6:00-7:00 PM.
To qualify, students must have the following:
3.0 Unweighted GPA
ACT score of 19 or a qualifying PSAT score of 500 in Evidence-Based Reading & Writing
Sophomores, Juniors, and their families were sent an email on Friday, February 12th with the link to join.

                                             Class of 2022 ACT
Junior and Junior Parents:
Class of 2022 In School ACT for Juniors is scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 2, 2021. This ACT is on paper and during
school hours. More detailed information will be conveyed through ASPEN email, Class of 2022 Canvas
Announcements, and on the BHS Testing Information.

Bearden Retired Teachers Scholarship
Bearden Retired Teachers offer a $500 scholarship to a BHS graduating senior who plans to become a
teacher. Must have a 2.8 or higher gpa. Two letters of recommendation are required. See Ms. Lesslie or Ms.
Bolinger in the College and Career Center for an application. Deadline is 4/16.

                                  Scott “Impy” Memorial Scholarhip

Seniors interested in pursuing criminal justice as a college major should apply for the Scott "Impy" Memorial
Scholarship. The $1,000 award is open for any Knox County student. Applications are due 3/19. Applications

                                                Swim Team
Bearden Swim and Dive Team is now registering for the 2020-2021 season. This year the season will be
February-April. City Meet tentatively scheduled for 4/9-4/10 and State Meet on 4/23-4/24. Head Coach is
