MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN & CEO
– SPRING/ SUMMER EDITION, 2018

At Assisi we want the residents to experience a wide range of
activities. This is of even greater importance for those residents
who perhaps don’t go out on bus trips for whatever reason. To
address this, we have offered a wider assortment of activities in
2018. The addition of new celebrations, various weekly activities
and a continuation of the ever-popular bus trips.
We started the year with several cultural days celebrated by various
nationalities as well as the usual Italian ones. These started with a
visit by ‘La Befana’ and a concert with Italian food for Carnevale.
There were cultural cooking groups, including pasta from the
Veneto region, polenta from Piemonte and beef wrapped with
prosciutto from Sicilia. Residents also had the opportunity to
celebrate other cultures with BBQs and singalongs for Australia
Day, Red Envelope fortunes for Chinese New Year and an Irish
History Screening with Irish coffee for St. Patricks Day.
The festivities extended to family events such as entertainment by Giulia Bonfigli

As you can appreciate, a lot of work and dedication goes into

Al Centro Assisi ci proponiamo di far sperimentare ai residenti
una vasta gamma di attività, anche e soprattutto per coloro che
per svariate ragioni no partecipano alle gite in autobus. Abbiamo
organizzato un vasto assortimento di attività nel corso del 2018,
con nuove celebrazioni e naturalmente con i sempre popolari
viaggi in autobus.
All’inizio dell’anno abbiamo avuto di celebrazioni varie culture e
nazionalità, oltre che italiane. Abbiamo iniziato con la Befana che
ci ha fatto visita a gennaio, seguita dal Carnevale, con concerto
e cibi tipici. Ci sono stati workshop in cucina con la pasta della
regione Veneto, la polenta piemontese e anche degli involtini col
prosciutto dalla Sicilia. I residenti hanno avuto modo di celebrare
altre culture con il classico BBQ e coro per Australia Day, il
nuovo anno cinese con i biscotti della fortuna, il St Patricks Day,
con la presentazione di un documentario sulla storia irlandese
sosrseggiando Irish coffe, naturalmente.
Le festività sono continuate con il concerto per San Valentino,

La Bella Lingua School ci ha fatto visita con gruppi di bambini e
di studenti che hanno beneficiate delle conversazioni in italiano
con i residenti.
Molti dei residenti hanno beneficiato dei vari giri in autobus per
visitare club e gruppi comunitari. Siamo stati al veneto Club e al
Fogolar Furlan ed abbiamo visitatola triennale presso la Galleria
nazionale del Victoria, ed altre mostre in gallerie di Montsalvat e al
Museo italiano al Coasit.
Per la convenienza dei residenti abbiamo organizzato viaggi
regolari in vari centri commerciali e varie biblioteche. Per i più
avventurosi ci sono state gite al ‘Melbourne Flower & Garden
Show’, una produzione lirica, una minicrociera sullo Yarra e gite ai
Dandenong Ranges e St. Kilda.
La seconda parte dell’anno si prevede altrettanto movimentato, Rosa Precoma - Flower & Garden Show
con i preparativi per la festa di Ferragosto, il concerto per la Festa
del papà, la gran finale di AFL, la festa nazionale spagnola e infine
lo Spring Racing Carnival, la stagione ippica di Melbourne.
Con l’enorme lavoro di preparazione dietro ognuno di questi
eventi, apprezziamo molto il contributo di tanti familiari dei
residenti.
