The Song of Invitation The inspiration for this year’s Easter candle began with a chance parking lot encounter with Fr. Jay last September. We were just beginning the design process and asked his thoughts. Without hesitating he replied, “The Invitation,” and the pieces began to fall into place: John Angotti’s song composed for the Oratory was posted the next day on the parish website. The lyrics begin “Can you hear her voice proclaiming from the tower with angels singing, bringing news of our salvation—behold her words of invitation: I have seen the Lord risen… Come and adore…” And those images became the base of the design. Our Sacramental Arts ministry was invited to a private hour of adoration in the Oratory. At a Mass in the Oratory shortly after this Fr. Dan played the carol “Jesus Christ the Appletree.” The impact from the Tree of Life Crucifix and imagery from the Song of Songs coupled with the last stanza of the carol: “This fruit doth make my soul to thrive, It keeps my dying faith alive; Which makes my soul in haste to be With Jesus Christ the Appletree” combine to become the top of the design. The invitation itself—the Word of God made flesh—completes the heart of the composition. It is our parish prayer intention “That the Lord Jesus would fill us with His love to go farther out of ourselves to invite people home to church, and deeper into prayer to bring every aspect of our lives to Him.” If you haven’t yet been there, consider this YOUR INVITATION to visit the Oratory of St. Mary Magdalene. In the silence of prayer it is easy to imagine as Fr. Dan has said, “When God created the universe by His Word, He sang it.” The Sacramental Arts ministry
